The mg turret in halo 2 was just an lmg on a tripod. I'm actually working on remaking that as a portable weapon for the map I'm working on.

CMT had a portable version of the LMG from Halo 2 (M247 general purpose machine gun), and there's another version floating around somewhere. CMT's is black with a more detailed skin and a box magazine, while the other is green, a bit less detailed, but has the high-capacity drum mag. They're both pretty cool, so I suppose it's a matter of personal preference.

I always wondered why there wasn't a LMG in game I mean MC is a super strong killing machine I would make sure to give him like a 50 cal machine gun so he could just tear through covies like they were paper lol.

A .50 Caliber is a heavy machine gun. Light machine guns are like the M1919 Browning.

M1919 is a .30 and I "think" is still considered a medium mg. LMG's are generally 7.62 or 5.56. Unless you were referring to the M1918 BAR. Edited by rerout343 on May 20, 2011 at 04:49 PM

True, Rerout.
@Tiel: No, the assault rifle is exactly what it says - an assault rifle, which is below LMG in firearm classification.

I was saying that considering it's what, 500 years in the future, the MA series is most likely on par with the LMGs we have today in the 21st century. Just a thought. With that in thought, then I guess that the Halo Era LMGs are equal to modern day Miniguns then?

With that in thought, then I guess that the Halo Era LMGs are equal to modern day Miniguns then? An LMG and a minigun are two different types of weapon. You can't really compare it to anything other than an LMG, because regardless of any advancements, it's still firing a 7.62x51mm NATO round. A round that we use today. So things really haven't changed much in five hundred years.

I would probably just kill them with the pistol in the time it would take them to randomly spray me to death. Also from the previous posts, yeah I know a .50 cal machine gun is a heavy machine gun. My point is that its strange why they wouldn't give a spartan like MC a heavy machine gun cause I mean seriously imagine MC with a heavy machine gun, the covies would just turn and run.

Edited by rerout343 on May 20, 2011 at 04:49 PM Pretty sure the AR uses 7.62, so then wouldn't that make it an LMG? fake edit: http://halo.wikia.com/wiki/MA5Byeah, 7.62x51 FMJ Edited by UnevenElefant5 on May 21, 2011 at 11:10 AM

Assault Rifle = skirmishes/assaults (duh)
LMG = defense/mobile offence
I don't know if you did your research, but a LOT of modern-day weapons use the 7.62x51mm NATO standard - assaults, snipers and MGs. It just so happens that MGs are classed by the type of round that they fire - and they obviously have a large capacity for that type of round, hence the MG classification.
LMG = 7.62x51mm NATO *These two may have been merged in 500 years* MMG = .30 caliber
HMG = .50 caliber (The Barrett M107 [a sniper rifle] fires this round, would you call it a HMG too? Or a better example, the M4A1 modded to fire the Beowulf rounds [.50 cal], would that be a HMG?) Edited by UBE Chief on May 21, 2011 at 01:26 PM
