Quote: --- Original message by: 117_VXP I've read the tutorial enough to give you the definition of every last word used and how many times they were used and what pages they show up on. I've seen tutorials on making maps, but I use gmax. Every time I use the JMS exporter by TheGhost, I get this retarded error: "No geometry to export!" And then, when I make a box called, "frame" and link my map to it (labeled, "level") it still says that there isn't any geometry to export. So what I've resorted to is using maps that are already available and just modifying them. As a man once said, "Don't reinvent the wheel."
If anyone has decent gmax tuts, I'll be glad to look at them. Just next time, instead of saying, "it's crap" (which I automatically see that as non-constructive criticism) use the latter of the two posts in your first of the list in your reply. What are yo talking about?... "I've read the tutorial enough to give you the definition of every last word used" Well then, your doing something wrong. No, you didn't. Please say you didnt just used a quote which has nothing to do with this... You are an idiot... So that means no one should ever make a new map because they would be "reinventing the wheel", so that is your EXCUSE to doing this... That is the most pathetic excuse EVER, this is being saved for my lul moments. BY THE WAY EVERYONE, don't make new maps anymore, make mods like this cool fella, no need to reinvent the wheel! The only time you would use that quote in terms of map making is if you where to recode the editing kit to do the same thing... or something along them lines. Dumb idiot. I'm done with you after that. Quote: --- Original message by: ODST_NickQuote: --- Original message by: 117_VXP
OK, then, you make a multiplayer map cause I didn't make this thread for faggots like you to troll.
EDIT: Yeah, duh the scenario setup. Edited by 117_VXP on May 17, 2011 at 04:59 PM Well, welcome to the forums. If you dont like the harshness of these forums, i recommend you leave, and dont come back, just like i did. Btw, from the looks of your map, you look like you took something and tried to make this a unique playin lg exprerence, and i say you did a good job. The more positives you have, the more esteem you get. The more harsher you are, the more you lose your self-esteem, and just dont care. So i am telling you, good job on your work. At least you took the time to make something new, or even better than where it came from. Rather if you succeded or not, dont ever forget to keep hope to yourself, and keep yourself proud, because sometimes your achievements you and your friends enjoy might just be the one, and never quit. If you fail, keep trying and trying. I wish you luck to your future works. And imo, the only thing that drives me NUTS is the bloodgluch mods. Edited by ODST_Nick on May 18, 2011 at 04:30 AM Unique? It's a mod of a map with 4 scenery pieces... It's a bad job, the reason we all say it is a bad job is because it is SO pointless to LIE and say its good... How can he improve if he thinks people like it like this, he will just do more crappy mods. No, the harsher the comments the more esteem you should get to make it better... wrong way around my friend. If you cry about it and dont try to improve then there is no reason for you to be here. I'm no referring to that quote above "Ask for harsh crits". "At least you took the time to make something new" - Do I even need to say anything.... " If you fail, keep trying and trying." - Exactly, you failed try again and take on-board the crit. ---------------------------- After attacking you I will now tell you that if you listen to all of the negative comments you WILL improve. Simple as that, it is what you want right, to improve? Congrats on getting a map INGAME but it is BAD.

There's the honest way (unproductive and ineffective) and the empathetic way to describe why and how you should take suggestions. Here's how I'll describe it: Quote: Criticism may not be agreeable, but it is necessary. It fulfils the same function as pain in the human body. It calls attention to an unhealthy state of things. Winston Churchill Quote: You need to buck up and start listening to how you can you make your map look better Higuy Although I hate the way the forum members state their criticism and antagonize those who don't take suggestions, it is imperative that you consider what people have to say. Not to do so makes it look like you have a big ego and are unwilling to change. There's a balance you have to maintain, VXP. So smile, wave, and don't tell people who's criticism you are ignoring, so you can take advice and direction from the good guys (we're outnumbered out here on the internet).

Well, here's how it is with me. If someone made a bad map, here's how I would approach the subject: Hi, {map makers name here}, I see you made a new map! Glad you could do it! From your map, these are the things I like: _________________________________________________________________________________ and from your map, these are things I don't like: _________________________________________________________________________________ and these are things I would like to have improved: _________________________________________________________________________________ and finally, these are the things I would like to see in your next one: _________________________________________________________________________________ Now, from a critiques point-of-view, you made a decent map, but on the other hand, I thought that it could use improvement. (this is the way to say the map is bad or has flaws without just saying it and making the person feel bad) The above was the list of things I took note of and wish you would review to help you in your modding experience. Hope this helped you to keep on making more maps! -- This is how I would talk to someone if there were things that I didn't like about the map. Not only am I bringing up points-of-interest in what I liked, I'm also tentatively bringing up what I didn't like and what could be improved. Just this right here, would have sufficed. But no. Some people don't even want to tell the person what he/she did good and what could be improved. You go straight to the bad parts. 117 VXP, you called us "faggots" and "trolls". Not a good way to earn respect. Crit doesn't have to include positivity, and besides, when you can't even answer Hunter's question, you haven't exactly earnt crit. I happen to know that Hunter is a very constructive member, and he commented on my thread when I first started out. I used to be the same way as you. Word of advice: halomaps is not a place of political correctness and sensitivity. It is a place for Halo-mad modders (XD).
If anybody should be being polite here, it should be you, 117 VXP. If you start a thread, you've gotta make a good impression. And I'm not impressed by your behaviour.

VXP, I'm going to tell you something I've learned over the last 3 or 4 years of modding. You need to take critism at all costs. Ever heard sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt you? It applys here too. The point is, listen to others. There not trying to disgrace your map, only help YOU, the author, make it better. If you do this, you will learn much faster with the knowledge everyone has and become a much more successful mapper.

have decide to jump on the band wagon to deliver some harsh words.
that is the game these(higuy, hunter, daniel and his alt's)like to play. they are best ignored until they get there heads out of their own asses.

Quote: --- Original message by: ScenySo within three days, there is a second version? fify Even I took more time into remaking my first map :x Desert_Battleground (V1) 3/27/08 Desert_Battleground_V2 4/11/09 Mind you, it is a custom BSP (box map for the fail >.>), but has everything else ripped - and the second one has AI (at the time, I didn't know AI didn't sync, but w/e). I think since then, I became a much better map modder than a map maker - see my list of maps as I go along: http://hce.halomaps.org/index.cfm?search=UBE+ChiefFrom crappy to good (notice I didn't say great or perfect, I'm still learning here), I worked. I looked around various maps I wanted to mod, thought of what would make them better (obviously not in a 3-day time span) and began my work. My latest achievements that were hosted on the main HaloMaps website were The_Library and b40-arena-v2 - both released on 8/27/10. Do note that most of my maps (even from the beginning) have been scored as a 7.0 or higher. The reason? I took careful note of what I wanted to happen in gameplay, and not just add some random OP'd thing that was sure to net all the noobs (although that did happen in the Desert_Battleground series ^_^;). I made sure I could "control" the gameplay by having players think about where they had to go (for a good example, see the b40-arena series) or by having a wide variety of areas to go to to outwit your opponent(s) - see The_Library for example.
So you, VXP, must also take careful notes. Decide what is best for the map and gameplay value and go for bonus points. Style points are also there, but are very VERY limited in modified SP/MP maps. Unfortunately, what you have done here scores low in that category, so you must rethink your strategies when it comes to modding. Take it from a more experienced map modder: You have a long way ahead of you. If you want to see more recent modding done by me, have a look at this thread: http://forum.halomaps.org/index.cfm%3Fpage=topic&topicID=37317

See that's the thing. You gotta learn. Listen. There's a reason why there are community forums, and it's so that you could get better. Being a noob is perfectly fine, but calling other people insulting words does NOT get you popularity, or respect.
Analogy-- Have you ever been a new kid to a class? You made a really good drawing, and you want to know what other people think. They say all these things to make it better, but you just insult their tastes. Also, you want to make an impression that you could be a "cool kid". Going around and getting at people is gonna get you the wrong type of fame. You know what I'm saying?
SO. You want "positive" feedback. Alright fine.
Hi, 117 VXP, I see you made a new map! Glad you made an attempt! From your map, these are the things I like: ...Not saying there isn't any good things, but, I'm not the kind of guy that plays variants.
From your map, these are things I don't like: You took a stock map, and added bases around it, which from a critics point of view, lacks originality.
These are things I would like to have improved: Less bases, more change in the level design. Added scenery. and finally, these are the things I would like to see in your next one: Less bases, more change in the level design. Added scenery.
Are you happy now? But just read what I'm about to say, and take it to heart.
The world isn't full of prancing ponies and pretty flowers. If you ask what people think, you should be thankful for their honest opinion. Maybe you don't like their opinion, that's fine, because that's called being human. If you're here at Halomaps, you want to shape yourself to be a respectful and good community member, that can tell others on how to improve. Right now, you're far from it. Learn to take all types of criticism, and get better. It's that easy.

We joined no such wagon, it's just the way I am, mate :) Looks like you do not know the members mentioned in your post, so you should be quite. They are not harsh words, they are true words. I don't like to play this game personally, i'm just here to help people improve their map making skills. And show my work and sometimes get crit.. Hey guys, we have our heads up our asses for giving VALID and TRUE criticism. You need need to grow up strangebrew - And make some normal brew's as all of yours are strange ;) Quote: --- Original message by: idltp
i am sick of this crap. a noob (not insulting you, VXP) releases his first map. so did i (as i'm sure most of you remember), because at the time, i was excited because i haven't done something like that before. i'm assuming VXP feels the same.
give him a break guys. it's his first map (and yes hunter, i have seen your first map, not everyone was pro like you when they started) the people here need to be a lot nicer & more tolerant of noobs instead of going "ZOOMGG!!!!!1!1!!2 I HAET UR MAP!!!!!1!1!!!! HOW DARR U RELEES IT AND NOT BEE AZ GOOOo0D AZ ME @ MAYKIN MAPPZ!!!1!1!! GO KILLL URSELFF NAO!!!!1111!!"
you guys need to realize that you ARE NOT better than people just because you can make awesome maps. infact, most of the "pro mappers" here act like total dicks. i would think people who are that talented and smart would act like it.
VXP, i know how you feel and you just need to ignore them and calm down. Edited by idltp on May 19, 2011 at 03:12 AM We only insulted him (well mainly me) because he ignored the crit, and plain and simply blanked my question. I'm not Pro... that map sucked ass... it was simply extrusions and afew chamfers on the little tunnel. Yes, that is correct guys, we need to be more tolerant of noobs ignoring us... lol. No. We are not dicks, you are. Because we give valid and true crit does not makes us dicks. It means that the person it is aimed it needs to man up and take it (in the none gay way). That's the only way he/she can improve. How can one improve his skills if the only thing he is given is possessive crit and just praised... -------------------------------------------------------------------- I see your 2nd version of the map has an extra piece of scenery or something, well done... /sarcasim At the end of the day most people in this thread gave valid crit to start off with, and the person it was aimed at didn't like that because he thinks he is super awesome. So he ignored it, so then we get a bit more hostile, he asked for it :) (Mainly just me as usual :D ) It is STILL HONEST AND TRUE CRIT, TAKE IT! Oh, and kids jumping one the band wagon off backing up the OP, jump off it now.

Nah, but seriously, you do have a long way ahead of you for map modding, VXP. Take it from me; as a modder with 3+ years under his belt, doing mid- to high-quality mods is no easy feat, and you'll need all the advice and crit you need - positive or not.

See? Even Dennis considers this thread to contain "flame/s/ing". And thanks UBE. And no, I have not been "trolling up modhalo" at all. I only have been providing, offering, or suggesting help to the people who seem to need it. Also, as I said on my MH profile, I don't do my programming for you, Sceny. It is for the community. And I will continue to make mods, for the community. I just made my v1.3 of my script organizer. Click http://www.modhalo.net/index.php?app=core&module=attach§ion=attach&attach_id=7606 to download it.

Don't assume that you are not to share the blame. Just everyone stop.

Oh, I wasn't excluding myself when I posted that. I understand that I'm part of the problem too. Well, I do hope you read what I said earlier - you might've accidentally skipped over it because of the flames last page. Quoting myself ftw, in this case :p Quote: --- Original message by: UBE ChiefQuote: --- Original message by: ScenySo within three days, there is a second version? fify Even I took more time into remaking my first map :x Desert_Battleground (V1) 3/27/08 Desert_Battleground_V2 4/11/09 Mind you, it is a custom BSP (box map for the fail >.>), but has everything else ripped - and the second one has AI (at the time, I didn't know AI didn't sync, but w/e).
If you want to see more recent modding done by me, have a look at this thread: http://forum.halomaps.org/index.cfm%3Fpage=topic&topicID=37317 And I know UBE is part of my name, but c'mon people, you should all realise that it's a clan name (a dead clan name, but still) by now >.< Just call me Chief, please - and don't get me mixed up with AssassinChief, lol.

Not our fault the only non-clantag part of your name is Chief, ofc we'll get you two confused.
Btw I wish Dennis had chosen an avatar that wasn't stretched.
