What does 3DS max have that Gmax doesn't?

Also wondering how you model a shape with a hole through it, or do I need to make seperate shapes and attach them to each other to do it?

And is it possible to change the radius of part of a cylinder, only the vertices that are selected?

And how did Rooster Teeth put people of 3 diffrent colours into one vehicle?

A rare sight, indeed.

3DS Max is like GMax on steroids; it has TONS of advanced features. A main one would probably be the capabilities to render.

The way I'm thinking of putting holes in things is with Boolean, but I'm unsure if that just creates tons of more polys (which you don't want) or is actually an effective way to do it.

I believe you can select the vertices you want, and then scale them bigger or smaller. Try it, since I'm not sure about that one either.

They probably never did it in Halo 1 since you can't by default, but in the other Halo games it's possible to do it by default without any modifications.

3DS Max just has more features. It's also easier to export from Max (get 8 if you can, that was what the HEK is designed to work with and the exporters for max 9 and up have problems).

For making holes:

I don't use Boolean because it messes up your wireframe and creates a bunch of errors.

Yes, just select the verts and use the scale tool to increase the diameter of the cylinder.

I don't remember that ever happening in RvB, but it's possible they used and editing program to make it look like that. It depends what game it was too, it's perfectly possible to have opposing team members in a vehicle in Halo 3, dunno about Halo 2, but not Halo 1.

Elefant, this is a great way to cut holes in mesh.

It happens all the time in 2, 3, and probably Reach. In Halo 1 you can NOT have people of a different team in the same vehicle without Open Sauce.

Multi-team vehicles has been created with Open Sauce, but that wasn't until recently so there's no way RvB did it in Halo 1.

Red vs Blue was done on the xbox. I've been wondering about this myself. The videos are cleverly edited so as to not show more than one color in the hog at once. I think at one point simmons and sarge are clearly in the hog (puma) together, but maroon and red were similar enough to be ignored.

The remasterd edition of red vs blue was made using Halo: Custom Edition. The same thing goes for the picture above.

Would someone who is new to Gmax and only makes low-med poly models without changing shaders and stuff get much extra from 3DS other than rendering?

Also, I just never found the scale function...

And the red team is shown together in the hog quite a lot (especially Grif and Simmons, who are very different colours) in the first few episodes alone.

On the xbox, thay put Grif and simmons via merging 2 seans together using a video editor.
