What is it that makes 3p animations so much harder than 1p animations?

Quote: --- Original message by: Juan You have to make the animation look real in all directions. So Im assuming that there would have to be atleast 4 of the same animations facing the same way?

I believe in a less literal sense, sort of. Instead of just dealing with the hands and arms, you have the whole body to work with. which may seem more challenging to grasp a sense of realism. personally, i never bothered figured out how the hell they work. xD

With a single third person animation, it should look believable in any direction. In a first person animation, it only needs to look believable in the field of view. ahh I see...I obviously have no idea how this works. So if I were to fix the crouch position, I would have to move the elbow down lower and "shift" the body upright and to check if it looks real? (go debug, crouch and look at yourself at front view and side view of the left side)

oooh... the 3p animations in Halo CE were really a pain and it's hard to make videos with them...*sigh* wished someone could fix it... I regret not taking animations in Gr.9 It's too late for me now... o well.
From my understanding, animations is basically: Drag "part" Save Frame repeat until animation looks ready play animation to look for bugs fix bugs if necessary ?Some thing like this?

I tend to have more trouble with fp animations, 3p seem to come easier to me. Edited by d4rfnader on Jan 2, 2011 at 03:41 AM

The difference is getting it to look nice and weighted. For example, I'm really used to FP animation and I know how far away to put a keyframe to make a gun/finger move the way I want and look right.
In 3P that all kind of goes down the drain and you have to learn it all over again. Sure, you're slightly better at it since you've been doing FP...but I'm just too lazy.

Which is why it's good to start in 3p. there's nothing inherently hard about the animation... It's just hard for people who are used to handling hands and arms which work in an X range of motion, while you have to handle the legs, hips, head, and arms in order to make the animation of 3p look real. The number of bones doesn't matter because we get used to the unsaid math that goes into fp arms - if the index finger is in this direction, the middle cant be there or else the finger is broken in half, etc etc.
I never did figure out how to export a 3p animation though... It's one of those areas where I believe the tutorials for Halo is lacking- If someone was willing to walk me through it step by step I would be more than happy to give my hand at animating some bipeds for the game.

I hope you're not talking about my post because I don't see what you're pointing out.
