So I laugh at how dumb people are at rating? Seriously, here is a fine example of a a bunch of tards: http://hce.halomaps.org/index.cfm?fid=2930This map is a freaking box with a low res heightmap, with no structures, and just vehicles essentially. It is rated a 7.8 My map which i released meh, like August, rated a 7.6: http://hce.halomaps.org/index.cfm?fid=5414What is it that all of you who vote look for? It is quite shocking to see that my map beats that map visually, game play wise, creativity, and effort, but yet it still has a lower rating? It absolutely makes no sense that the other map could possibly get a higher rating, there must be a hidden noob element that i can add to a map to increase overall likeness of the map. I want to know what it is. /rant, more or less for lolz, but who knows.

its a matter of the number of people that download it.
More people downloaded your Ambry map, 3390 at 7.6 Only 2451 people downloaded Volcan, at 7.8
Its like: Map A - 5 people download: 10, 8, 5, 10, 7. = 7.8 Map B - 10 people download: 10, 8, 6, 9, 6, 3, 10, 9, 7, 8. = 7.6

What I noticed that most people, sadly even my friends, prefer maps like extinction, coldsnap, and doomsday. They say that it’s for the variety of vehicles and weapons that take no skill to operate...
Ambry has a lot to offer, just no to the majority of the playing community...the ones with 10 year old computers...

People rate maps by what they like to see. What they like to see differs from what the community likes to see. For instance:
A mod of a map with a bunch of ripped stuff stuck inside will generally receive better ratings than a custom BSP with classic weapons. Though the community prefers the latter, the former will still achieve higher ratings due to the large amount of "shiny" weapons inside.

The people have different tastes then the author does normally. Also normally, lots of "advertising" and showing the map off gets definitely more downloads.

You can do any one or more of the following: 1. Make a Single Player map. 2. Insert some of those tags that have high ratings, but are rarely used. 3. New Weapons and Vehicles are always fun. 4. Get hype so that people will anticipate your releases 5. Make a map with a cool twist (Like those ones where you are in Samus's power suite, or that one with medieval weapons). Unfortunately, many of those maps are never played online . On another matter: That is because it is actually very, very fun in slayer. There were a few games in it on the day of its release. On one more matter, this map http://hce.halomaps.org/index.cfm?fid=5128 should have at least a 9.0 rating. It is one of the best C20 mods. Instead, It was given an 8.1. RPG style has less of a need for special modeling/texturing. The point is to get as many situations for RP as possible. It is logical to assume that this has high ratings because people who are mainly normal gametype players do not rate and/or download, and people who RP download and rate.

Lol I noticed all the "bad" maps with high ratings you guys link to no longer have such high ratings by the time I go look. have a feeling you guys have been rating them down ever since they got a bit more publicity.

true,it is mainly about having fun in the map,but it would be good to see some of the better maps get the rating they deserve for the work that's put into them.

Now I'm not saying that's good by any stretch of the imagination, however, I can see a few people being entertained by that for a good while... Considering the amount of time it'd take for them to find one another....

It is interesting to see how people think of or consider the ratings. Especially since they are statistically invalid as a metric of personal subjectivity. Edited by Dennis on Nov 8, 2010 at 11:10 PM

You can clearly see advanced lighting, and shader rendering. I mean LOOK at those shadows :O And you see the snow on the 45 degree slope? Halo is the only game known to do that!!!11! And the tanks,... oh man those look so damn real, and you can shoot nukes with them. It takes extremely advanced technology for such things. Who wants balance when you can have chaos and mayhem!
