Okay, I have some ideas for the community to discuss and think about. These are NOT map requests. 1) A flood/covenant ship, like the level 'Cortana' on halo 3. I hardly see any of these and think it would be cool to see. I found one on halomaps: http://hce.halomaps.org/index.cfm?fid=2507 2) A single player air battle, like the level 'The heretic' on halo 2. I don't mean 500 longswords nuking each other. I mean you in a banshee destroying objectives in space. 3) A classic halo 1 firefight. With halo 1 weapons, halo 1 drop-ships, halo 1 elites, ect. I think this would be cool because I like seeing classic stuff. 4) A single player level with a twist to it. Example: 343 guilty spark, Coluseum II. I like scary levels, where you go into an unknown structure, finding a scary enemy, knowing you are alone, with insane music in the back round and knowing that death is inevitable. Out of all the halo games, halo 1 has something the others don't. FEAR.... I would like to see more of it in halo ce. Those are all the thoughts I have. Please feel free to add your own ideas.

Like where covenant drop-ships come down and release the covenant, or one that uses something similar to firefight-portents point system. Also with infinite rounds. Something like that but with classic stuff. Edited by pepzee on Oct 24, 2010 at 12:39 AM

I have a concept file and a makeshift BSP for idea #4. When I'm not working on Skidrow's project, I've been working on that. But the damn HEK+ screws up the bitmaps JKLSADJF;KL.
It doesn't have that total 'fear' aspect to it though.

As far as #4 goes, I am going to be finishing a map soon with some basis in the doom 3 style of gameplay. I am more going for MP play here though. But dark, sputtering lights, blood on the walls, and possibly corpses in the halls will adorn this map. I am mainly making this as a new more AUTHENTIC zombie type map. pics so far on little parts and pieces that still maybe need some touch-up are as follows. textures with some basis off of doom 3 and more modern architecture but still, many don't even have any detail layers yet. As I said, this is something I am finishing later on.

(Well, ofc if it's unprotected) Nope it's protected. I'd have to talk to gamma about that. As for everyone else, it all looks great! I hope it has flood or some other interesting enemy in it, and make sure you bring it into the story in an interesting way. I also thought up of one more idea: 5) A firefight that uses flood on instead of humans. That could be interesting, round 1 would only have infection forms and it would get harder from there. But recently the only single player maps uploaded to halomaps only appear to have te covenant in them. I just like variety.

Ya, well you have to think of an interesting way to spawn them, like in 343 guilty spark, where the flood break down a door. Also, this is just a suggestion, but make a video, like of PVT. JENKINS in 343 guilty spark. That video was amazing at introducing the flood. It starts getting weirder and weirder the further they go down int the structure. First looking for the captain and his downed drop-ship, the dead elites, then the locked doors, then....

The problem is, people have played Halo so much that they know when the Flood is coming. It's nearly impossible to create a flood encounter that will really shock the player because everybody knows about the flood now.
But technicalities aside, my campaign takes place on a ship, so I'm thinking of having the flood board the ship via a longsword or pelican through one of the hangar bays. The flood will quickly infest the ship leaving only dark, corridors as you make your way to leave the ship. That's probably the scary aspect, making your way through the flood infested hallways.
Sorta like the Sacred Icon level from Halo 2. God I hated that level.

Not true, an encounter that shocks the player needs to be well planned out. I found in Doom 3 that the thing that really scared the crap out of me is when I would all of a sudden hear a door open, turn around, and I am getting slapped in the face by an imp and torn at by a wraith. Easily killable, but when such close encounter surprises are in place, it makes for a thrilling experience. And just because I had seen this trickery before in the game didn't mean that the next time, and the time after that, it still didn't scare the crap out of me. Especially, like you said, when you have dark or even dim hallways.
the problem with halo is, oh look here comes some flood straight at me from a mile away. Well I guess I will take the first few out with my pistol while they are still WAAAY away and then shottie them all when they get here. Edited by eliteslasher on Oct 24, 2010 at 01:41 PM

I still suggest making a video introducing the flood through the marines eyes, and see him slowly getting infected. I really like your idea for your campaign. You should add like flood blobs, like in the level Sacred Icon level, just to get that feeling that the flood are taking over the ship. Another suggestion is making bent hallways in the ship, liken what CMT did to the POA. Oh yes, I remember the Sacred Icon level. However that level was easy if you could find an energy sword. The flood would disintegrate if an energy sword touched them. So make sure there are no power weapons in your level too. Edited by eliteslasher on Oct 24, 2010 at 01:41 PM Maybe he could nerf the shotgun and pistol to make them weaker, like take the zoom off of the pistol, make it weaker and make it fire slower. For the shotgun make less rounds in a clip, slower reload and a tad weaker. I remember when I was younger I couldn't even play past 343 guilty spark because it was too scary. When ever a flood hit me in the back, when I was least expecting it, I would jump in my seat. I also was afraid that when I shot them they would just get back up again, I hated that. All I'm really doing is recycling BSP's from A10 and D40, and a few BSP's from maps like Launch Bay X. I'm going to let lighting and fog effects do most of the dim and dark part. Actually, unless there are flood blob scenery on this site, I could perhaps do that. It might not be that hard to flood up a few things either. Quote: --- Original message by: eliteslasher

Well it should scare people if you set up the encounter correctly. The floods attack has to be totally unexpected. There is a level here that is a good example: http://hce.halomaps.org/index.cfm?fid=5509 If you chose the marines help at the start, the marines will kill all of the covenant and you will be released from your jail cell. Then out of nowhere the room flashes and flood fall from the ceiling.

A good flood encounter would be you walk down a hallway to an objective, there is a locked door in the hallway, while walking the hallway a second time to get out, the flood break down the locked door while your within like 10 feet.

Well, I am planning on perhaps making a full human texture pack with some bitmaps that are more relevant to present day to near future human architecture looks. If you wait for that, I should have some bitmaps done and load them. word of warning, I plan to make it sort of a big file because I will be having multiple layers for each level of detail (such as bump layers, color layers, scratch layers, rust layers, and edge-of-bump layers which define major scratch and wear areas) so layers can be edited out and re-layered according to the user's wants or needs. @Hs_crozzhair Hmm where have I seen something like that? Oh wait! DOOM 3!!! :D Edited by eliteslasher on Oct 24, 2010 at 02:38 PM

I pretty have the entire 'script' of my level down to every encounter, so that is one part of it down.
I think I'm going to make it so that you get plenty of ammunition and weapons in the beginning of the level, where you're staging a successful assault against the Covenant, but then the flood come into the picture. When the flood infests the ship, it will become more desperate. All weapons will drop half their ammo capacities and shotguns will be a precious rarity.
I probably should also invest in a cheat protection system as well. If I cannot get one, I'll just find a way to get past that (i.e. all weapons have no spare clips to prevent inf. ammo).

Yep, I wish it would of been finished, oh well. I think I might try to create a #4. I just need to find a good map to base it on. Any suggestions? I'm going to try not to use a10-d40. I just think they are overused. I might even try to create a #2, that would be hard though. Let me know if you think of good maps I can use. I would even try to make a #3. I just don't know how to script it. Edited by pepzee on Oct 24, 2010 at 10:19 PM

There is only one that used a50: http://hce.halomaps.org/index.cfm?fid=5509 I could use one of those, I just really don't know how I could make a mission out of it. Besides I want something new a lot of people have memorized the campaign levels. I might use a50/d20 if I have to. Any other ideas though?
