I have a ripped texture, and a model I want textured to the ripped texture. How would I go about applying that texture so that it all matches up correctly?

I'm fairly sure that you simply go into photoshop and start copying and pasting between the unwrap and the texture, but I don't want to do it the wrong way and torture myself. Help would be appreciated.

No better way to learn than to torture yourself! Seriously though if you are fairly certain on how to get the ball rolling just try it out and see where you go from there. The best way to learn is from your own mistakes so it sinks in.

As far as I've seen, the ripped models are already UVW'd to the textures So just applying them should work.
However, you should probably lean UVW map in max (simple stuff) and Unwrap UVW (a bit more detailed).
To unwrap something, you have to select faces and press UVW map. Then press planar x, y, or z, or box, or sphere: whichever one gets the texture to appear on it at all (All this does is apply the texture to an unscrambled UVW system). It's easiest if you select everything first, and then do that, and then do this next step.
(also, convert back to mesh or poly now)
To get stuff to line up correctly, select the faces you want to align, and go to Unwrap UVW.
Press edit.
Then just move the wireframe image of the model over the right part of the texture!
Repeat.
Works in gmax too.

AGLion, you should unwrap the model again.
Make the unwrap edit window show the texture as a background, instead of that checker.
Move and adjust the the uvw shells to match the texture. save the uvw (i always do that).
Convert.

I think that is what sergeant said also.
