I have a friend with a computer that lacks a DVD drive. He wants Custom Edition, and has the original disc. Aside from piracy, are there any possible alternatives to this?

k this is how i did it because my cd is messed

1: run halo custom edition install and do all the steps
2: install patch 1.09
3. have fun :D

To play Halo : Custom edition legally , you require the following :
1. A original copy of Halo : Combat evolved.
2. A CD key for your game.
Now , you just need to download the game from this website , install and enter your CD key when it is required. Then run the patches 1.07 , 1.08 and 1.09 (Which are also found on this site, the search bar will navigate you in the correct direction.) Once you have done that , you are finished. Unless of course you mean Halo : Combat evolved, in which case , you can get an external CD drive or torrent (and enter in your non-pirated CD key).

you only need to run patch 1.09, you don't need all 3.

My DVD drive doesn't work, so I just put it in my mac, and copy files from cd to usb, put usb onto my pc, drag files, install ect. :)

Download the game image from an online source, mount it with Daemon tools, and use the CD key that came with *your* game to install it.

hes better off just getting the instaler and the .09 exe here then going to a pirates bay lol

When you buy any CD, you are really just buying the key. For all I care everythign should be bought online and downloaded online. But then you think of ppl with 56k speeds. Those poor poor souls :(

No it doesn't. It checks the registry for already installed copies of Halo (both CE and PC) for the key.

oooooorrrrr. you can download the installer (of coarse this is needed) and install. enter cd key when required and then u go into ur halo ce root directory and open haloupdate.exe. no need to download the patch seperately. can't believe no one (having been in and out of their root directory for map making) has noticed the haloupdate.exe. i may be assuming but on just grounds. no one mentioned this.

Yeah that's what I always did when the patches came out, I just ran that exe and it patched in like less than 2 minutes.

You can use a CD Image Emulator and download a CD Image. As long as you own a legit copy of the game it is legal to do so.
