Me again! I just cannot get a thirdperson app to work for my kiddo. I have done everthing I know to do. I have read every post I can find searcing for thirperson and for version changer. I have applied version changer and changed the version from 1.09 to all the others on the table. I have downloaded every version of thirdperson I can find. I have tried loading the game then loading the app, I have tried loading up the app then loading the game. He is playing Halo PC version 1.09 with Vista. We are trying to get it to work in the Halo campaign. WHen we hit the toggle keys to switch to third person nothing happens. (At least its no longer crashing) it just does...nothing. The weird thing is I could get it to work on my Dell laptop, but since he spilled an entire freshly made vodka and tonic on my keyboard we have been using dad's machine and his third person view will not work on this machine.

Some things to try:

-Right click and click 'run as administrator' for the thirdperson app (Which by the way, can you perhaps link us to the one you are using?)

-Make sure you type in 'version 1.09ce' into the console or it will actually switch you to the Halo PC (the original full game that you installed directly from the disk) executable, and apps designed for CE (Custom Edition) will not work

Can you tell me how to do this "link" thing you speak of?

Roger that, thats what I though you meant but I wasnt sure. I am trying thirdperson and thirdperson FOV, I downloaded both of them off this site. Ok so when I fun FOV as administrator the game crashes. When I run regular thirdperson as administrator still no response. WE are trying to do this in Halo PC currently. Havent attempted halo CE yet

Are you sure you're not on 1.09 or 1.08? I'm pretty sure 3rd person hack doesn't work past version 1.07.

Actually, there is one that I am using on 1.08 that still works. I think it was called "ThirdpersonFOV" it allows you to mod the Field Of Vision as well. It's in this site, I just dont know where but I'd give it a search

apply patch 1.07
apply patch 1.08

do NOT apply patch 1.09 (in spite of the claims that version changer works with 1.09 patch, I haven't been able to get it to work as instructed)

ensure you have -console added to your ce shortcut

Use version changer as instructed with the download, start "FOV" third person view, start halo ce, type the tilde " ~ ", to start console, then type in "version 1.09ce" (without quotes) - by mistyping "version 1.09" you will see a list of PC halo games, not CE halo games, which you cannot join.

enter a game, or server, press 1 to activate FOV (or whatever key you mapped "enable/disable" to)

Voila - ! Third person, and field of view!

Note: not applying the 1.09 patch means that you cannot join a game from game spy, or from xfire - not until you use the console command to change versions, start ce, then activate version 1.09, then browse the internet game and type, or enter by direct ip

(good luck - took me a few tries, FYI, uninstalling CE in xp, doesn't always mean when you re-install ce that the original installation was removed along with the updated executable that might be patched version 1.09 - which I could not get to work - if you have problems, delete the haloce.exe before uninstalling)

It has FOV and 3P and Devmode, and it works with 1.09 just fine.

I'm not sure if you consider this "every thirdperson you can find." and if you have tried it did you install the .dll in the correct place from the instructions?

This is why I use AVG.

sky's the limit is basically amazing. best 3rd person app ever imo.

We tried Skyes The Limit and it crashed the game. No surprise I am no computer expert odviously. WHAT DID WORK: uninstalling the game and reinstalling it and NOT running any updates (I told him he would have to choose between thirdperson view and playing internet challenges)
But thanks to SLAP HAPPY (I could not get any positive results with version changer either) I will try what he suggested and maybe my kiddo can have the best of both worlds.
NOW Does anyone know of a modified map on this site where my kid can play as an ELITE WITH AN ENERGY SWORD (important bit) All this kid wants out of life is to watch (in thirdperson) his character run around as an elite with an energy sword killing things. He is making me bananas with this stuff. We have DL'd about 30 maps. and have yet to find the magic combination of eite/energy sword.

So help me God if we cant find a map that fits his parameters we are going to start modding our own maps and I dont think anyone here wants that :D!!

I do want to thank everyone for their helpful suggestions and for putting up with a GIRL and a KID with these elementary issues.

I can make a map for you. I can start now and upload it to a site.

I believe this on just aded today will fit the bill.

Map uploaded. Problem was,I didn't have an energy sword you could actually hit with,so bump possess the gold elite,then get near someone and it automatically attacks.

We downloaded the map FtDSpartn made but but when we try to run it the game crashes (gathering exception data) We have not upgraded past 1.00yet could that be why?

Bump possession is a term used when you enter a devmode command (cheat_bump_possession 1) which will automatically give you control of any character you run into. Devmode is a special mode that developers use to help gather information about their game, it also has some cool commands (infinite ammo, no reloading, autokill, superjumping, among other things) You can download this app:

Then press Page Up to toggle devmode on or off, and press the tilde (~) right above tab to activate the console. You shoulde see a pink area to type in in the bottom right corner. Type in cheat_bump_possession 1 to turn it on. 0 turns it off, same with most other commands. You can type cheat and then hit tab to display all other commands that start with the word cheat for other options as well.

I dont know if I put it the right place or not. I was not sure what "root directory" was. I wish I could get STL to work then I could upgrade to 1.09 and be done with it.

Usually it mean the top level of your directory tree. If you were referring to the root directory of your hard drive then it would be C:\ because everything branches or grows from there. However when someone refers to the Halo root directory they mean the directory that the game is installed in. If you did a normal install it would be C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo Custom Edition for a 32bit operating system or C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Halo Custom Edition for a 64bit operating system. This is because this directory is the root of all the halo CE files and all stuff halo CE branches off from there.
