everything i got from here is great we definitely have creative people here but what should be done is files put on here should be more compressed so downloading time for people who have slow computers can load maps and other stuff won't have to wait.

but i did notice longer download times recently (20-30 sec before, 2-3 min now - on separate occasions) and slightly more people than usual downloading. i suspect my internet unless anyone else can confirm this.

Zip files make it faster to download. Downloading them uncompressed will only make it take longer. If your download is taking longer, it's your internet speed or lots of people are downloading from halomaps.

He's saying that the files should be FURTHER compressed, like rar or 7z files with higher compressions. The thing is, not everyone uses WinRar or 7-zip, and Dennis automatically converts all rar files to zip.

thats what i was saying and to solve the problem of people not having access to Win RAR is to put it on here so it easy to find. But there one problem to that the program itself and not a trial because that pointless because of the limited time.

Someone with a genuine copy would work best. then we can shrink the files smaller and it would speed up downloading time and everyone would be happy.

7-zip is free, has an excellent file compression ratio, and opens most file formats (zip, rar, 7z, etc). However, that's not the point. Here's a quote from the file submission part of this website:

Also, Windows comes with it's own extraction program for Zip files, so there will never be any problems due to not having the program to extract it.

extract it to your Halo CE directory and then install.

this is so crazy i was just about to make a post about this

my broadband service (and it seems like most services) have a very high capacity for downloading files, mostly in the 1.0mpbs and above. downloading files from here i have not reached faster than about 150 kbps.

i understand file hosting costs money, but perhaps there is an upgrade to speed up the downloading process?

Sleepy1212 so how exactly do are you supposed to do that? its not compressed when you get it.
