I thought it was unlimited, but there have been a few times that, when compiling, I get something like
MAXIMUM_TAG_FILES_PER_INDEX
or something along those lines, and I deleted some stuff and it compiled fine.

I thought it was only in memory...

Yes...I would think so.

So that would mean that it is equal to your memory, meaning, if I had 1GB then my limit would be a 1000 tags in my directory?

Uh no, I'm not talking about in a map. I'm talking about in the TAGS DIRECTORY IN GENERAL.

You can have as many tags in your directory as your hard drive allows.
That is probably saying you have too many in a map.

I remember I had it on 2 occassions
first was compiling a level, so I deleted a few old test levels, and it compiled fine.
second was compiling a weapon model, so I deleted a few old weapons and it compiled fine.

This is just a guess, but I would imagine there's some kind of limit to how many tags or subdirectories can be in a certain directory
example, can't have more than 100 subdirectories in the \weapons\ directory. But then again I'm not sure.
I would suggest going through and cleaning out some old tags you have.

Or move them all to a temporary directory until you're done compiling whatever it is you're trying to do.

I believe the maximum tags allowed in your tags folder was around 2500. I have encountered this problem before, but all I did was cut some folders that were not in use and moved them to a temporary folder. After I was done with tool or whatever, I would put the folders back to where they belonged
