Don't forget to read the HEK tutorial on the front page of halomaps, and look at tutorials for modeling aswell! HEK Tutorial: http://hce.halomaps.org/hek/ Halo Maps usermade tutorials: http://hce.halomaps.org/index.cfm?pg=1&sid=23 also, if you want to make custom maps, and don't want to pay for software, download gmax, off of turbosquid, search on google for gmax download, and it should pop up! I hope you have a wonderful time in the community, thanks for joining! :) -Pakar

I ment to say, that just coming over and saying "Hi, i'm a new modder, but i just started downloading HEK" is not really a reason to make a Topic. If everyone ho owned HEK made a Topic here...huh... He could have made his topic and showed pix of work or whut evar...get what i mean? Never ment to be that rude, sorriez :) Maybe you should point him the right direction. Are you using Gmax or 3ds Max?

I've been around the Forums for a while, but when I tried to follow the tutorial it showed about 3DS Max. I'm going to be using Gmax, and I don't think it's the same, since i've never used 3Ds Max.

I'm having a little trouble, actually. I'm following the tutorial I got with HEK, but now i'm on the Material Editor bit. It's confusing, because it's not like the one on 3Ds Max. Anyone can help me out, please?

it is the same but Gmax starts you out in the multi/sub-object or in gmax terms (Multi Material) setting. 3ds however does not. What you can do to get it like gmax is click next to where you would put the name of the material where it has the button that says "Standard" then then double click "Multi/Sub-Object" and it will begin to look extremely familiar to you. I hope this answered your question.

Hi, yes it helped a lot, sorry to be a pain but i'm stuck again.
The bitmaps aren't there when i'm doing the ground. The tutorial doesn't show much about the proper installation, but the files aren't in the folder like in the tutorial. Know how to fix this?

Know how to fix this? the default is a file folder in max instead of where your files are in the CE directory. just navigate to it in the menu.

Out of curiosity, what tutorials are you using. I know I used this guys tutorials http://www.youtube.com/user/HaloHub the first time I started working on maps. Seemed to really work for me. Anyone know who this guy is BTW?

3DS max is much easier to use but it costs money while Gmax is free. if your watching the tutorial Guru made he has 3ds max and in gmax the button names are diffrent from 3DS max.

And suprisingly enough, on my computer, gmax is 10x easier to use, which often causes problems when trying to fix models for people :/
it's not that i can't use it, it's just the rendering is so messed up it becomes impossible.
