Well, ive descided to play halo again (batten down the hatches) and fired her up... and then poof. Gone. The Halo screen pops up then crashes to desktop. Ive checked everything. Im pretty sure the compatibillity fix for the 256 video cards is what it is, but when I try to install it, it says halo isnt installed, but it is. Ideas?

try closing xfire, and if that works, deleting the toucan.dll from the xfire folder. I have had a faulty toucan.ddl for a while now, and it crashes any game on startup. the only downside is no-one can see what you're playing.

Turn off anti-aliasing in your video card controls.
