The final patches for PC and CE 1.09 are ready and available for download. This is the same build you've had for a few weeks if you've been following the thread, only the installer-wrapper is added. If people report success installing these patches, they will go up for auto-update soon, which should help unify the playerbase on the new version.

This is also the first time we've added a "Bungie, LLC" digital signature to anything (instead of going through the Microsoft internal tool for doing that) so let me know if you see anything wrong there.

http://www.bungie.net/images/games/halopc/patch/patch_109.exe

http://www.bungie.net/images/games/halopc/patch/patch_ce109.exe

Remember to re-apply the instructions in the Anisotropic Filtering thread if you did before the patch, as this config.txt will overwrite your changes. If you don't know what I mean, you don't have to worry about it.

Hi all,

Last night I decided to sit down and fix the problem where 64-bit machines with >4GB of RAM complained that you have 0 RAM. That was easy. Then when I tried to test the fix, I discovered the compat problem with the recent IE security fixes, and saw the threads here suggesting that people uninstall them.

That's no good, right?

So I put together a fix for that, too. I'd like you guys to try it out on your various systems and make sure that (a) it fixes those problems, if you had them , and (b) doesn't cause any new ones.

NOTE!!!!!!
This will *not* have any impact on gameplay. All the changes are finished happening before the MGS logo movie even plays! Every time there's a patch, there are always a few people whose internet connections happen to get flaky that day, and they assume there's a correlation. This patch won't change the game. It's your imagination. Really.

This patch is only for HaloPC, not for CE yet. If a little time passes and no one can convince me that the patch is buggy, I'll port the changes over to CE and release both.

This version will network with 1.08 in the same game, it doesn't break compat.

Try it out, reinstall your missing IE patches, and post your results here. If anyone is still running Win98SE (gasp!) let me know if it works as well as previous versions.

Thanks!

I have no need to really, since I have 32 bit. This patch is mainly for people with 64 bit computers. And it still shares the network with 1.08 users.

I saw talk of changing of the netcode since gearbox fux'd it up to support 56k, was it really changed?

read the article, they're not changing the netcode.

probably the only benefit to most of us is enabling AF. other than that, and not even that much, i'm not updating apps for this.

I don't think you relieaze that you can't just "change the netcode". It's hard scripted into the game, and more then just that would have to take place to actually change it.

It's just like any other patch. Fixes some problems and that's it. Nothing new after the loading screen. Also it's not just a fix for 64 bit computers. It fixes the IE problem.

Well thats what I thought... I was confused for two reasons, first, like you said, its hard scripted into the game, and two how could you play with 1.08 users with a different netcode in the game?

Your information and assumptions are incorrect. Gearbox supplied exactly what Microsoft specified and the last couple of patches are ONLY to correct security vulnerabilities in the GameSpy supplied protocol.

The point of patches is to update things that are hard coded. If you have the source (like who ever is releasing this patch) you could do it, but like ms bunjie or Gearbox really gives a rip about this game.

They're releasing updates for it too.
Not to mention they told us to hold on to our CD keys for something special.
I think that shows they care a little.

It only fixes the 64 bit problem, and a problem involving IE.
