I want to know how to import 3d text created with w/e program (3ds max, gmax, etc.) into the map blood gulch.

Please link me to any tutorials, or, explain it step by step.

Thanks,
Mator

Use the text primitive in 3ds max, make text, extrude, maybe cap one side, uvw, texture, export, compile with tool as scenery, add in sapien.

You make it sound so simple!! :o

What is extrude? How do I "Cap" one side? What do you mean by uvw? Texture? Export to what type of file? How do I go about compiling with tool?

Past the basic stuff: Is it possible to make the text "solid" so actors can interact with it? If so, how would it be done?
Is it possible to replace a vehicle with a letter, or text, but have the vehicle still act like it was normal (ie just change what it looks like). If so, how would it be done?
Is it possible to make the text "burn" like actors do when it comes in contact with fire? If so, how would it be done?

Thanks again...

Edit: If you haven't already figured it out, I have no previous knowledge using any of the programs involved, save 3ds max, I know how to make 3d text in max... though I don't know what texture I should apply... :/
So just link me to some basic stuff directly involved, if you could. ;]

Edit 2: I think things would be 900x easier if I could just chat with someone in xfire... then we don't have to clog up the forums and things won't take a year... Xfire: matortheeternal

It was worth it.

Dude, before you get anything in-game, learn to use guerilla for tagging and tool for compiling. If you want the basic procedure, you'll need to get it ready for tool, compile it, tag it, put it in a map, then compile the map. Otherwise i'm completely clueless about modelling. And i'm pretty sure everyone knows how to make 3d text in max.

As for the second paragraph, i assume your talking about the actors colliding with it.
Yes, you can just replace the model and animations and do a few other stuff. The flame can be a .projectile tag, where you can set the material response to "attach", or something like that.

thats the thing. as somebody who clearly understands the process of making things for halo, its very difficult to judge exactly where your understanding is. an xfire chat would help im sure, but the only really effective way is through graphical demonstration. obviously terms like cap and extrude dont mean anything to you, so its safe to assume you have little to no experience in any of this?
E: another thing is that there arnt any magical links that will tell you what you need to do what you want to do. you have to play around and discover stuff on your own. sometimes watch tutorials that have nothing to do with what youre working on. thats how you pick up little tips and learn some new tools in the 3d program

Yeah but I don't have another year to figure this out. What I want to do should be very simple, I just need an in-depth step-by-step process and it'll be done. Honestly, isn't adding your own models to a map one of the most basic things you can do?

I can already figure out how to make the text, I just need some select information/instructions.

Its really not that complex, all I need is someone to talk with for a couple of minutes...

Edit:

Trust me on this, I can do almost all of this process, just give me an xfire and I'll ask you a few questions, it won't take more then 5 minutes.

Edit 2:

Watched this tutorial: http://hce.halomaps.org/index.cfm?PG=3&fid=1062
I know everything I need to know now.

Too bad you guys couldn't have just linked me... -.-

Thanks anyways,
Mator
