So I was thinking, actually wait one second I need a disclaimer:

No I don't expect this to happen, no I am not advocating for this to happen, though it would be cool/interesting. I simply think this is a very interesting idea.

Anyways, what was I saying, oh yes...

So I was thinking what if the community did a real community mod. What I mean is what if they did, Oh I don't know, a campaign where they set up a free roam campaign map and gave each modeling user a certain section to set up and they let everyone implement acceptable tags of covenant and human weapons so there were ridiculous variations of everything.

Or maybe a map pack that contained a standard set of maps with interesting features, each made by individuals or groups of them so that on the users on The Halo forum would have another set of maps that people would expect them to have other than the originals.

I thought about this when I say yet another "community mod" which are basically I feel what people call their mods so that other members will let them use tags. And no I don't think this will happen.

God Ce community is cynical

I was just giving an example of my general idea of basically a giant mosh pit of authors making and connecting models and enviroments and such.

Not a bad idea. The only problem is getting the community to work together.

That's what I meant as impossible, though I though of something, say you decided to do a free roam an you got a bunch of modeller who said they would participate and assigned them parts of the roaming area for them specifically.

But, tis a fantasy

I have the feeling this won't be done, but If it does get created, it would yeild interesting results. I think I would like to contribute to this, if someone could get this is order. I would like to model a section of the BSP.

Yeah, I'm willing to help out if you want to go forward with this. I can provide tags, edit tags, model and offer other types of custom content.

Oh I never said I was going to start this, I simply put it forth as an interesting idea, if eventually people got into this I guess someone could start it up... even I could head it...

looks like some new MMORPG hmm? something like Furcadia? Loved that game lots of years ago, don't know if it still exists, but basically it's a big world where people upload their "dreams" as maps into the main world for others to hang out... man i loved the concept

I'm not sure that is possible in the engine, but interesting to say the least.

just from CE...there's really no reason for it minus the fact that pirates get to play PC maps. like i said before...i'd really like to see the CE DL come with a different (custom) map pack instead of the PC maps. maybe i'll upload onw just to see how it flies X)

the other part you were talking about...sounds more like stringing random SP maps together. you could do that easy enough, i'm sure someone here could tell you how to set up "switch bsp"

Dead on takeoff.
The reason why, it terms people will better understand, Halo Maps does not host map packs is: BECAUSE I SAID SO.

What is the auctual reason behind the no map pack rule?

A new map pack would be interesting because if you are trying to rotate maps you can't expect people to have anything more than the original.

Because it takes up more bandwidth than necessary. Some people may not want all of the maps, but they have to download all of them, which takes more bandwidth, and is less efficient. Uploading each individually means more time on the downloader's side, but more efficiency over the entire system.

hrm...that's not what i meant...i'm talking about replacing everything in CE's \maps file and having that as the DL. if you don't like the idea that is fine but it would help divert people away from the standard maps.

PS: i'm not a child so if there is a reason that you don't want to do something then just "say so". I realize you deal with a lot of morons and high school kids on this site but, as far as i'm concerned, "because i said so" stopped being a sufficient (and certainly not polite) explanation in 1999.

You can't just replace the maps because CE performs a checksum operation at startup and if any of the default maps are missing it will say they are "corrupted/missing" and tell you to reinstall. So, in short, it doesn't matter why because it's not possible anyways.

No, because if the community doesn't work together, then they won't share tags, so there won't be tag problems :]
