What I did was select the ground polygons, go the the top viewport, take a screenshot, past that into photoshop, and start working with it.

Select the ground polygons, uvw unwrap them, render a uvw template as tiff. Open the saved .tiff (template) in photoshop, make a new alpha layer, paint in white on the alpha where you want paths, colour the RGB in the tiff to match, save. Compile in tool, open new .bitmap in guerilla, set to explicit alpha, save, compile in tool again. Apply .bitmap in basemap slot of shader, select 2 different detail maps.
