I'm pretty sure that means too many tags in your tag folder. I got that when trying to compile my BSP. My solution was to cut half of my tags folder, move it to a temporary folder, do all the magic necessary, and then move the tags back.

It's either too many sub directories or too many tags in a directory. I had to delete quite a few old tags before it would compile any new stuff.

Doesnt explain why it comes up on a gbxmodel compilation.

I had this error when I was trying to compile one of my bsp's, and I had one folder of tags, that was around 200-400 mb, I moved that to my desktop, and tried compiling, it finally compiled, just temporarily move some tags to your desktop, or elsewhere, then compile.
