I have the level in Sapien, and using the lightmaps tool to adjust the lightmap in the interior bases ( both of them are sealed with no exterior source of light ). I then save the scenerio and compile with tool. I have added a light fixture in both of the bases yet when the level is created the bases are dark with no lighting.
Am I supposed to save radiosity after I adjust the lightmap? What is the process as I have yet to find a good complete tutorial on interior lighting.
* I use GMAX so you don't end up suggesting that lighting tool for 3DS.
Any help would be greatful.
TIA

Did you do radiosity with Sapien or Tool? In tool's raidiosity, lights don't emit. Run it with sapien.
If that takes to long, you can manually edit the lightmaps by converting the lightmaps bitmap to tiff, then use tool to recompile it after you edit it. If you can figure out what part your editing that is... Edited by chrisk123999 on Jul 25, 2009 at 03:34 PM

(search it) Unfortunatly i don't think you can do radiosity in gmax, but you can find out how the lightmaps are mapped to the geomitry.

OK I ran a full radiosity last night in Sapien and that fixed the problem. *yay* I'm not sure as to exactly how long it took but when I woke up this morning it was done. I think the processing time to run a full radiosity in Sapien depends on your ram and processor speed... not sure but I have a new pc so that might have been what cut the time down.
I really appreaciate the help. Thank you very much :) I do think we need some more tutorials for lighting... * just a suggestion. :)

Well, Sapien radiosity emits light, while in tool it doesn't. Also, E3PO's Sapien (not tool**) is able to save the painted lightmaps. I don't remember where I got the download for it however.

I have a monster computer, I CAN RUN CRYSIS ON MAX XOMFGXX (gfx card made by god)
and it still takes an hour or 2 depending on the map size, we're talking portent size here.
Why does it take just a few seconds for tool? it never works, so thats prolly the case lol but anyways
wansnt e3p0 something with scams or so? i dont know about him, just heard

I don't think radiosity uses the graphics card, it's more of a processor thing.

Sapien or anything halo related doesnt support more than 1 CPU, and I'm running a Dual Core CPU at 3.2 ghz per core, for a game that required 400 MHZ to play it would be ffing ackward that you need a NASA computer from Back Then to run a simple radiosity
