There isn't any ambient light... so you did set the sky as +sky? Look at your .sky tag and make sure the ambient lighting is all set the right way.

For the tool problem, you have open egdes. Halo has certain rules your map must follow for it to be accepted by Tool. One of those rules is the "sealed world rule" meaning everything must close, so no open edges. To fix the errors, in max/gmax find your CE root directory C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo Custom and find mapname.wrl double click it, and there should be 3 options, uncheck all of them, then import it. It should highlight all your open edges. Rebuild those faces so they aren't open, or create faces to fill the gap.
For the sapien problem, you need to run radiosity. In tool type: tool lightmaps levels\mapname\mapname mapname 0 0.9 and obviously replace mapname with the name of your map. wait for the command to finish and then open your scenario with sapien again

is this a indoor or out door map? and make sure that you have your shaders setup if you dont there are lots of tuts on how to do so if you need one i can past it here just tell me. or you can run radiosity in sapein. hit the tilda key "~" then radiosity_quality 1
enter
radiosity_start enter this will take forever wait untill all 3 are at 0 radiosity_save
or just run radiosity like the guy above me said thats probably faster. same with your other problems try what he said. o and i your getting that many errors in tool you need to change the way you make your maps. please post a pic of what the map is like in your 3d modeling software, 3ds, gmax so we can see what needs to be done.

I run it through tool just to get it ingame then run final quality lightmaps at threshold 0.1 or in sapien. I prefer tool because I like to multi task

do you find it faster to run it in tool? im looking for a faster way for a small mp map i made radiosity took 1\2 hour on a 1 bitmaps map. and does runing it onece in tool and then onece at .1 give it a better noticable quality? and the original problem guy post a screenshot.

If your map is in editable poly, you will ALWAYS get errors (well I do) Try converting it to an editable mesh, my tool always says all edges are open if I'm in editable poly..
