Does the quantity of player starting points contribute anything to the maximum number of objects on a map? In Sapien, I occasionally get a "maximum_rendered_objects exceeded".

It means you probably didn't portal your map and you probably went overboard on scenery.

Does it make a big difference if we get that error?

Yes, ingame if you look at all those objects some disappear due to overload.

So, back to my original question. Do having too many player starting points contribute to this problem or warning?

I believe not. Player starting points are not considered 'objects', therefore do not add to the objects list. Neither do they take up tagspace.

No, just portal your map properly and remove some scenery. Starting points have nothing to do with that error.

Any guidelines to properly portalling your map?

Not many tutorials out there, your best bet would be to go though the HEK tutorial, although it does a bad job at it. There's an old topic around here somewhere that goes into good detail about it.
