Hey, I've seen some people in tutorials orbit the scene without pressing the little button in the bottom right corner. What's the key combo for this?

I think you mean Alt + Middle click. Just tried and it worked. Thanks :)

o, I didn't know anybody didn't know that. It must be hard to model like that.

lol I had the same problem but I saw it (Thank GOD! It's so much easier to move around!) in Newbkilla's plane modeling tutorial. Check it out if you haven't already, because it is definitely helpful.

While we're on the topic of not knowing little things in MAX, how do you create a line/edge between two vertices so that they aren't pulled together like in welding? And if you had a flattened cylinder that you wanted to make into a Chopper-like wheel, how would you get the hole in the middle, but also get a hole of the same exact size on the other side, then connect all those vertices (Using the above-mentioned way of making a line between two verts) so that a nice, even hole in the middle is formed?

How is she when she doesn't surf?

you could always make a smaller, longer cylinder and boolean it out.
also, if you didnt know about orbiting, then control + alt + middle click is slow precise zoom.

Ahh. Does that bypass that weird problem where you start zooming in slower and slower in increasingly tiny increments, until you really can't zoom in any more and no matter how much you scroll the mouse wheel, the camera stays in one place? I hate that.
MAX has alot of zooming and orbiting problems. I was working on something, and the camera swing distance was set as if I were viewing the whole model, so I couldn't go in and edit some minor stuff on one thing I was making, which got really annoying... >:|
