HI! I'm DEEhunter and I'm about to yell at you about my new product. 3ds max viewport shaders. This is just a start but this shader allows the user to have realtime shadows in there 3ds max viewport. How do you use this you ask? Well first download the .fx file at the end of this post. Then follow the picture instructions.(Pictures by doylle from game-artist) After loading the shader, setup your models in the viewport and apply the direct x shader to all your models. Then add an omni light and select it on the "shadowTerm1" drop box. Easy as that. Once you have it all setup it should look like this. This shader can only support 1 omni light but it is still very useful to lightmapping and other things. I will be making more as you guys make requests or as I see the need for a new shader. Download! http://deelekgolo.fps-zone.net/Stuff/Shadows.fx Right click and save as if all you see is text. Edited by DEEhunter on Feb 17, 2009 at 09:14 PM

Also, wouldnt this lower FPS in the viewport?

You can also do this with standard material (and I'm assuming all the other materials) by using the Direct X connection pull-down in the material options.
Also Dee, show off a pick with normal maps and spec so people can understand what is so exciting! haha
And Bo the cube is in the top right because of the build of Max Dee is using (2009+) haven't ever seen a way to have it in any lower versions. Edited by YakZSmelk on Feb 17, 2009 at 10:06 PM

Normal materials in 3ds max cannot do this. Only the direct x shader can. That will change when 3ds max 2010 comes around the corner. :D

While this is cool, I don't think it will help with making CE maps...

Maybe if DEE can find the dll that puts it there, then do some programming to make it for all lower versions :P
