I was thinking, that maybe, just maybe, that you could make a flamethrower with flames continuing to burn for a few seconds... How? I was thinking that maybe you could make the flamethrower chain spawn some projectiles for a little bit, so that when they explode, they chain spawn more projectiles, causing a "fire" in that area. I don't know how chains pawning works, or if you can do it with projectiles. I'm just curious if we could make it happen, it would make a more realistic effect, and could be used to block paths off, thus changing gameplay a little bit.

You could be able to edit the explode.effect tag for the flamethrower and make it spawn another flame projectile. But if you want it to end, you would need a new projectile with a new damage effect that doesn't spawn another flame.

Would it also be possible to make a grenade that spews flame over an area for an amount of time? something along the lines of that.

The projectile is a slow flowing invisible thing that attaches on contact creating the burning effect (just use that on a projectile to make a flame projectile..)

or you could just make it when you shoot the flame you could spawn the flame scenery so you could block paths with it to protect the flag

it wouldn't "Block" you exactly. It would be an undesireable path, but provided its not an instant kill weapon you won't die crossing a band of fire. Plus, standing there spewing fire at the ground next to your flag instead of the enemy right there with a gun (who can cross the flame) isn't at all the best idea ive heard of.
Reminds me of the song "Through the Fire and the Flames".
