How can i set up a script that makes a music start playing when i walk into a trigger volume?

Also, is there a script that ends the music?

There is a script, search z-team's campaign ones. I'll dig it up later if I can be bothered.

(sleep_until (volume_test_objects certindeath (players)) 15)
(sound_impulse_start "sound\dialog\x10\keyes01" none 1 )

this is from one of my maps, "certindeath" is the trigger and "sound\dialog\x10\keyes01" is the sound/music to be played. you might need to use this command for bigger sounds or them music:

(sound_impulse_predict "sound\dialog\x10\keyes01" 1)

it just loads up the sound into some sort of buffer and makes it easier on the game engine.

That's to play a sound. To play music, you use the sound_looping_start command, in place of the sound_impulse_start command.

Erm, it keeps saying it isn't a reference to a looping_sound tag:

(script startup heretic_music
(sleep_until (volume_test_objects heretic (players)) 15)
(sound_looping_start sound\music\Heretic Hero\heretic hero none 1 )
)
)

wtf

I know it's a different question, but how do you make music play in the backgroud of a ui?

Actually, getting the music to play wasn't too hard, but getting it to play at normal speed and not speeded up has avoided me. To clarify, some music will play just fine but the HALO 3 music tags I downloaded from here and some music I compiled through tool myself have let me down. This problem only ocours when the music is placed in the main menu's .sound_looping tag, in it's own .sound_looping in a multiplayer map it appears to play just fine.

To try and solve this I tried compiling some scilence, setting that as the music in the main menu's .sound_looping tag, and then putting my music as the background sound for the map. This resulted in the music playing at the propper speed BUT when you move your mouse over the buttons, or click on a button, the sound somtimes resets.

Officer egg: Do you have a sound_looping tag at that location? If not, make one.

I just took a second look at your script. I see why you're having problems.

Quote: (script startup heretic_music
(sleep_until (volume_test_objects heretic (players)) 15)
(sound_looping_start sound\music\Heretic Hero\heretic hero none 1 )
)
)

There's a space between Heretic and Hero. Just put the path in quotations, so the script reads it all as one path instead of reading "Hero" as another parameter.

Like this:

(script startup heretic_music
(sleep_until (volume_test_objects heretic (players)) 15)
(sound_looping_start "sound\music\Heretic Hero\heretic hero" none 1 )
)
)

Should work then.

Heh...

Well, in the place of that space, put an underscore, and remove the quotation marks.

Says the same thing... :/

Odd. Could it be the sound loop itself?

Post a screen shot of the sound_looping tag.

That's frickin' weird. It should be playing. There doesn't appear to be anything wrong with that tag.

Heh, it's just an extra parentheses, that's all:

(script startup heretic_music
(sleep_until (volume_test_objects heretic (players)) 15)
(sound_looping_start "sound\music\Heretic Hero\heretic hero" none 1 )
)
) <<

Get rid of it, and that should fix it.

put "" around sound\music\Heretic Hero\heretic hero
you have a space in there so the script is freaking out
"sound\music\Heretic Hero\heretic hero"
edit: wow i missed half of the thread. nvm

I don't know if we've solved the problem.

By the way, I think I know the problem, but I can't explain it out of fear of being wrong. What I suggest is to use a sound tag instead of a sound_looping because that works for me
