Your edges are open. Import the model and weld all verts by 0.01.

thats horrable advice, just import the wrl file tool made of your level, uncheck the three boxes when you import it and look for the red segments

From the HEK official tutorial: Quote: When compiling using Tool the following error message appears:
### ERROR edge # is open (red). _____________________________________ There is an open edge in the level.
Typically, there is a "hole" in the level that is preventing the level from satisfying the Sealed World Rules and therefore the level cannot compile successfully.
A simple way to fix is: 1: convert to editable poly 2: go into border mode 3: select the whole level 4: find "cap" and click it 5: try compiling again. Also wielding vertexes by 0.01 is a good idea. To do that.... 1: Go into vertex mode 2: find wield 3: select all your model's vertexes 4: in editable poly, click the little box and make it 0.01 in mesh, just make it 0.01 and click wield If that doesn't fix it, there are error fixing tutorials on the site.

Weld is a tool found in the vertex selection mode. There is either (in editible poly mode) a small box next to the weld button that will open the value options or (in editible mesh) there is a value box next to the weld button. You want to select all the verticies/vertexes/little dots and then weld them at a value of 0.01, you should note the number of verticies before and after, if this is gonna fix the problem then u will see that number decrease from before to after. This is always the 1st thing you should try when u get open edge errors no matter what the other pple in this thread have told you.
If that does not fix it then you need to import the nameoflevel.wrl into max and uncheck the 3 boxes. Then you will need to delete faces and create new ones or target weld some verts or manually fix the open edges (holes in map).
Someone mentioned the border selection tool and "cap", this is always a good idea but u might also need to create some edges if you do that.
Border selection tool is better than stl check at finding open edge errors.

I dont use gmax and am unsure of a couple things. You can do everything i said in gmax but i dont know if there is a border selection tool in gmax. Im pretty sure you need to get some type of maxscript or plugin for importing a .wrl.

did you try welding all verts at 0.01 1st? if not then do it.
If you need to import the wrl then u should target weld some verts to seal where the errors are or you should delete the surrounding faces then create new ones ( this wont help if you have 2 verts extremely close together that you cant notice because they are so close and should be terget welded or welded)

um, well. youve got even more "hard" experience than me. so i can't help much. i know a bit because i spend alot of time around here but i havent sucessfully TRIED anything quite yet, so youve beaten me.
but as for Weld or Wield, its weld. As in, an ark welder (not related to gmax. an ark welder is a piece of construction for fuzing metal pieces together).
i don't think there is a "wield" button, but if there is, i can tell yo thats not what you are looking for. i have no idea what that would actually do. so i wouldn't oress THAT...
