A variant of the Halo 3 BansheeWhat is the problem with that ? We didn't saw anything about the model, texture or anything else. We use the original texture as a reference, but I worked on it and I can tell you it's a modified texture now. Quote:

In our release, we have given all the credits. We (Darksoldier and me), Adjudant, and Bungie Studio. We never said all the content belongs to us. We always appreciate critics if they are constructive and if they can help us to improve our works. For us, we just want to create assets to share it to all the community. We are on halo's forum, so what's the problem to release assets from other halo games ? I take the time to make an .xcf file with Gimp, to allow the community to create their own color permutations easily. We are here to share good contents, and respect bungies works and all the community. You guys need to take the same way. Don't forget, we are on Halo Custom Edition, and we did something custom, you can't say the opposite. Edited by Dalek on Feb 20, 2015 at 08:25 AM

>anti-ripper side getting mad 'cause people make something that looks good spending a fraction of the time come on people why would you even want to spend the time to recreate a model of a halo 3 banshee when there's a perfectly good one that you'd just be trying to imitate? Other than for practice or something. and if you wanted a lower halo1-tier polycount it would be way easier to just retopo the rip and work from there too.
although on that note if you use a rip you should definitely specifically say you ripped the model and texture then modified it rather than just sticking "bungie studio" in the credits, 'cause that doesn't show the extent of the ripped content at all, and unless you say something is ripped people assume it's not, and then get extra mad when they find out it is when it looks like you're trying to take credit for it (but just barely mention bungie so you can get defensive and start a fight when they call you out) Edited by gruntfromhalo on Feb 20, 2015 at 01:03 AM

I'm talking on even a religious scale, it's ridiculous. for me I find ripping and not telling anyone pretty bad but rather than offend me I just think lower of whoever made it. As I said above not giving credit or giving credit but hiding it in the fine print makes it seem like you're trying to hide it and want people to think you're good for dat ego boost. And that's what I'd think less of them for, not the actual ripping. Although if you give fine-print credit and actually expect people to read the fine print I can't blame you, other than for thinking people actually read fine print. Ripping doesn't reveal anything about skill level, especially if the ripped content is in a great bsp they made or something. But for full anti-rip people only reason I'd assume they'd get that way is 'cause they think if a ripper can get a good looking product in time without putting in any work, people who see their work that's just as good as said rip but done all from scratch wont appreciate the effort or will even think it's ripped. Or they just like finding groups to put down and use that to make themselves look better in comparison, and rippers are an easy target. I think I was anti rip back when I posted here years ago but I think that was mostly a mix of bandwagonning and the first point I made involving people not recognizing the effort of making things from scratch (that is a pretty logical argument but its based around the view that getting your ego stroked for your work is actually important). For Hunter atleast. http://martynleeball.blogspot.nl/ If you can't take crit on your stuff don't post it in the WIPs thread as that's what the thread is basically there for. What the link with the ripped assests ? About Hunter we all know he has done very nice models. But let's be honest, some of them have never been finalized and imported to Halo Ce. And about these models, they are based on Halo, right ? So it's just a ripping too. You can say what ever you want, it's the truth. About the critics, sorry but when you say " Cliffs are too flat", it's look like we are stupids, and you are the best. Or that " That is what people refer to custom nowadays sadly. And please tell me you just made the texture bland white and added a CC map to the shader".It's look like "Hey bro, all of you guys need to listen to me, I'm the best and you will do everything I said". Sorry man, but I'm in halo ce since 2007, I know what's is Custom. I can take critics when they are constructive. Sorry Mootjuh, but we didn't have the same idea of what critics are. Now I will stop this stupid fight. You don't like what we have done, it's Ok, I can understand. But when you come here, you take us for idiots, in front of everyone, you need to know at our eyes you are the idiot.

All of that is just a problem of vocabulary ... "Custom", "Variant", we never talked about news models or anything else, it's clear.
This is just a different way to see the halo 3 banshee on halo custom edition. we didn't announce a new banshee but a variant.

i know making a complet vehicle is somethiong hard and it take much more time than a modification of an existent tags, i still try to model a f-302. as you can see result is too bad compared to a professional modeling but i still try to model something better. i agree with you make a complete vehicle take time and it's not always easy when you need to learn to draw something correct, but for the banshee it was not the subject. This forum is a good opportunity to learn some things about design. internet is a good place to share and learn.

Haven't been on here in a while, and I'd figured he didn't know about the thread where he mentioned SMT just being concept stuff. Regarding rips I'm with S-314, I just don't see why people have to get so flustered if it's a rip. If they try to hide the fact that it's a rip then yeah get mad because stealing other assets and claiming it as your own is a big no-no, but why go to all the effort of creating your own model with the aim of looking just like one that's already there for you to use? Also dark are you planning on doing the covenant shade of purple we all know and love? Or are you just doing custom colours first? If it has that iridescent reflectivity that we saw in Halo 3 that would be pretty damn cool. Sorry if you answered the purple question, just typing this now right before I go to sleep, frigging tired right now

Yes, I can do the covenant shade from halo 3 with the original purple color. I will get a look, and see if it's possible or not, to doing it.
And yes, I don't know why people get so flustered when it's a rip. That's the most important question of our century ! ^^

Assets are assets. If you have access to assets that are suitable for what you're wanting to do, then I don't see anything wrong with using them for your CE mod, provided you don't try to pass them off as your own creation. The possible differences in the personal satisfaction of the modder shouldn't be reason to stigmatize the mere act of ripping.

The possible differences in the personal satisfaction of the modder shouldn't be reason to stigmatize the mere act of ripping. That ties back into the portfolio aspect I was addressing. A lot of people here create content with the eventual aim of using it as evidence of experience when breaking into the industry. Comparatively speaking, rips come off as a waste of time and the mark of a novice interested only in utilizing objects from other games and putting their name on it for the effort of 'making' what's already been made. I don't do anything here, but as far as productivity goes I have to sympathize. I don't even game much these days because it's such a colossal waste of time; being credited with the mammoth task of rebranding models and textures from professional games to work in this engine doesn't really appeal to me as a legitimate outlet to spend excess time.

This looks fantastic, hope to see more of this. Quote: --- Original message by: PRPatxiQuote: --- Original message by: UnevenElefant5 Is the Covenant destroyer based off an existing Concept? I think the shape is really interesting and has a lot of promise if you scaled it down into a more Scarab-sized craft. It might not even need to be a flyer, you could make it some kind of Covie tank and the flat top carries troops like the Scorpion treads.
Hope that design gets used for something, it's rare we see good Covie stuff around here and even rarer that it gets finished. They where not going to be drove. Only as scenery and project is not going to be released or worked on. SMT was a troll team meant to spam the forum with projects that will never be released. Edited by PRPatxi on Jan 14, 2015 at 07:04 AM Well, I guess I won't. A shame, because the grizzly model is really nice and is reasonably far along.
