We won't be posting past broadcasts and will stop doing streams if people decide to record and upload them.

Shares content with the public.
Doesn't want that the public shares said published content with the public.

Am I missing something? Sounds pretty control freak to me. :l

Lol, what is the point of streaming then? That entire statement is one giant contradiction.

The streams we are doing are of our actual tests, and often show problems and things that are works in progress. While this is true for other videos we have posted, the content is often carefully chosen and elaborated on. We don't want things we can't carefully control posted, until it is in a state where we welcome anyone to see it. The youtube channel gets around 5k views in the first week per video minimum, and we want to control what is seen.

As far as availability of the streams, we post here, our reddit, on twitter and if you have the twitch app on your phone you get a notification when we go live. The streams are a way for us to show the community what we are currently doing and engage with people who are watching. For those that can't watch live, we have other ways for you to follow progress in a way that delivers the highlights of our progress.

You're still punishing people who are genuine fans who either don't have the time, internet, or any other constraints from getting excited and getting media about your project.

How about make a compromise? Make a edited stream highlight that goes up on the youtube channel with a "Work In Progress" disclaimer at the top? Anything other than "No, sorry you weren't there, right there and then, so I'm going to arbitrarily block you from watching it whats so ever."

TLDR; We don't what people to assume that the content in our streams will be closely related representatives of the final or near final product.

TLDR +1; We don't want to generate fake hype.

Don't worry masterz I understand you.

With every internal beta, we send copies to some of our youtube partners to film videos for their channel, there will be 2 or 3 for the March beta. So it's not like being lucky to catch a stream is your only way for updates.

You have 3 media announcement avenues, here (Halomaps), your twitter, and your subreddit. Out of those you have only posted about a video by your "Youtube partners?", once on the subreddit. Once loosely alluded to it here on the forums, and never on your twitter.

People who had seen that a stream was happening would have seen it in these places yet out of those places only once did you actually link a video.
Pretty poor track record.
Aaand we are right back at my last post, punishing people for not being right there at the right time.

The goal is to push people to our twitter and reddit, rather than this forum. 90% of the updates don't get posted here anymore. Like I said, if you subscribe on twitch you also get a push notification on your phone or tablet. All videos are posted on the subreddit, and on twitter. I also post an hour before I know I have time to stream on twitter. Between that and twitch notifications, people have as much information as to when we are going to stream as we do.

A live event is of course going to punish people for not being there... and releasing a video of buggy, unfinished content that is long and would bore the majority of people looking to find out more about the mod is not what we are wanting to do.

When we do post updates here, there is rarely a response give or take a few people.

More so, we are focusing on the subreddit because it is more accessible to more people, and people just aren't as interested in signing up to a single dedicated site anymore. It also lets us spin off dedicated threads to certain issues, and engage the halo fanbase as a whole.

Well that's actually also good, it will give more time for the word to spread around so people can actually catch the stream.

I'd say two days bare minimum, at least a week preferably, lets word spread and hype build.

You are a man of business, therefore I'm a bit surprised you're not applying basic business practise. Maximizing exposure should be your only concern, even if that means not always getting much replies on all mediums.

That aside, I'm sure some members here would appreciate the halomaps loyalty regardless.

It's not that we won't be posting at all on halomaps, we just don't do it as often. Sometimes we can't even due to we can't bump our own posts if no one has replied since our last updates.

I only really know within the hour if I will have time to stream. I have been streaming when I know I have to do long tests of a level, often testing multiple new things. In the latest tests, it was going through the levels to test all the new audio, and soon I will have to test the revised vehicle health system (our old one use to "jam").

As I've said, it's very simple. We don't want to be posting buggy and boring content for thousands of people to see. We don't care if it's 20 people watching live, with us commenting about whats broken and making it clear this is a live stream of a beta test.

My "boring" content is the largest and most comprehensive collection of pre-retail h1 footage on the net. If it doesn't interest you, or the majority of other viewers I could care less. What we don't want, is for people to look at at SPV3 footage of me playing the same encounter 3-4 times in a row or just wandering around the levels. When it comes to videos demoing SPV3, I like to think we set the bar fairly high as far as keeping peoples interest the entire time they are watching.

When we stream, yes there may be broken content and boring segments, but it's to an audience of 20 people, who we are talking to as we stream. Like I said earlier, we don't want to show buggy boring content for thousands to see preserved on the internet, but we don't have a problem with 20 people who are seeing it interacting with us in real time.

I don't know what you aren't getting. I don't care about the amount of views each video gets (well I do, but it's not THAT important) I care about the quality of the videos I put out. If a video about SPV3 is going to be on my channel, I want it to be interesting start to finish, and not full of boring filler "walk around the level" type things.

I stream to let people see the state of the mod and receive feedback. If I were to post them on youtube i'd be receiving feedback on them long after the video is posted when it is no longer relevant.

If thousands of people started joining the stream, I'd hope it be near the state of release and not sooner, or I'd probably stop doing them.

The content you post is boring to the viewers because they are not there for it, they are there for the mod. That doesn't mean that the information in the videos themselves is bad. It's like me going to a cinema to watch a horror movie because I love horror movies only to wait 3 hours and when the flick actually starts it turns out it's a documentary on watching birds.

You don't want to post those videos of fear that you will demote spv3 and make people loose interest in the mod which I presume has already happened to all the side stuff you post.
As I said, every time a viewer skips a video the chances of getting information about the mod in his/her inbox is getting smaller.

So what I'm getting at is, is streaming actually helping you? Because there has to be a reason for you to stream and since you keep promoting reddit and twitter in order for people to see the notifications, what would happen if suddenly thousands of people join your stream?

Right now you seem like my friend who makes videos of games and then doesn't share them with anyone, except with him he actually preserves them, as far as I know you don't so you are just streaming for the sake of streaming.

Anyways this isn't going anywhere, back to waiting for updates or maybe some unrelated videos.

I love birds
