Worst thing you could ever do is buy Alienware...

Played a50 the other day. Aside from it lagging me to hell and the snow making it near impossible to see, I had no issues. It was better inside the ship, but even with all of the settings turned all the way down, I still rarely got over 20fps. Definitely not optimized for older/lower-end graphics cards.

Nothing wrong with Alianware, im getting one of the newer ones.

I use a Dell and this one is pretty decent, on the upside.
I would've done a custom but I don't have the expertise or the will. My dad prob wouldn't want to do that anyway.

The theory seems pretty simple for building a custom PC. Haven't put the theory into practical use but it seems pretty easy to learn. Doesn't appear to require 'expertise'. ;)

Sceny is also saying that Alienware sucks. It is overpriced. He also probably meant custom built as in buying your own parts rather than choosing from options that Dell's Alienware gives you.

Ah, well, wasn't entirely sure whether my Alienware comment was relevant. Internet speech is hard to understand fully.

It appears to be fairly simple to choose components. Though it can be difficult to find compatibilities, it seems like a pretty easy process. I've identified my own computer and am planning to buy the components and build the computer fairly soon, unless I decide instead to wait until next year for price drops.

Prices are always going to drop, but then it's not going to be the "latest" or "almost latest" technology anymore. There's always going to be new components coming out each year, which is the reason why prices drop. You get what you pay for in terms of the current technological advancements per year.

It angers me that nobody even talks about the mod anymore.

You do realize with the amount of money used to buy an Alienware you could still build an awesome computer and take a vacation to Hawaii.

High end laptops ain't the easiest thing to build. And they are still nice.

If it's laptops, then I'd say alienware is fine, but I'd go googling for Clevo's and Sager's, which may be cheaper than alienware. Alienware is just the brand name and logo, just like HP being super overpriced.

So hopefully CMT posts some new updates before this thread is derailed even more...

I wouldn't call this thread derailed, considering we're discussing the best computers for gaming, which works in favor of cmt mod users who can't get good fps

and to add my two cents, most of you who are telling people to build or have built a custom computer don't realize that many of us know diddly squat about what makes a good computer for the most part. I mean hell, for me, searching for a good graphics card is like proving the existence of bigfoot. In the end I'll probably end up buying the most expensive one I can find and afford online and figuring that it's probably that expensive for a reason.

It's a matter of catching up with the latest technology or waiting for the price to drop.

I guess so, however, Asus makes extremely nice laptops for half the price with still amazing components. You should check them out.

I also prefer desktops over laptops due to power and upgrade-ability.

What about iBuyPower or some other PC building website?

Also, if you're going to build a computer for gaming, just choose a graphics cards that you know will run your most demanding game(exemplary, not decent) and build your computer around it. That way you don't have any bottlenecks or reverse-bottlenecks.

To be completley honest IBuyPower wasnt that bad, its how I first got my pc (however I've radically changed it since then), and for the most part was a pretty solid computer that was only around 700 dollars.

ASUS is really a great brand, I have a laptop from them for $650

See the reason there is so little activity here is that CMT is still trying to figure out how to implement DX11 tessellation so that we can have TRULY bumped character bipeds based off occlusion and high poly super BSPs, better filtering , active shadows, and flawless reflections...

seriously, that would be amazing to be able to do that in this game. Seeing it in crysis 2 with the occlusion geometry mapping, hi res tex pack, and all the DX11 features was truly amazing. Geometrically mapping almost every brick crack or tire rut dip made that game as stunning to look at as it was to play. I just wish there was a way to get those features into this game and have them work as well as they do in Crysis.

Looks great, but is it supposed to shoot that fast? I'm not sure if your going for something similar to Halo 3 or Reach but both had a slightly slower cannon in terms of when going rapid.

H2/3/R fire-rates were not taken into account

Right now, the high RoF (2 rounds/sec) and damage (5 shots to blow up a Ghost on Normal) is counterbalanced with an overheat system (8-9 rounds at max fire-rate, ~3.5 secs to cool down); the AI will be adjusted accordingly so that they don't overheat every time

E: should of course mention that it's designed for heavy vehicle combat; the player will be handed a chaingun Hog for light encounters with ex. only a couple of Ghosts
EE: and that this may change if testing finds it to be too strong/weak/cumbersome/etc.
