Wow, 2005. Yeah, it should be time to get a new computer.

Dude... My machine is from '02

It can run just about any game you want. Except BFBC2 and BF3. And Portal 2.

It can't run Portal 2?

But that's the deciding factor for whether to buy a new computer!

I demand that you buy a new computer. To miss out on the masterpiece that is Portal 2 is to live as if life never happened.

That's only because this machine doesn't have a sound card yet. And I am never going to put any money into this machine. I have played through Portal 2 anyway.

My work machine is capable of running Crysis at the highest settings.

What makes you say that?

Dude I have only ever upgraded the CPU power and altered RAM amounts. Previous iteration had 3GB Ram but 2.8GHz single core. Before that I had 2GB Ram 2.8GHz and before that 2GB Ram 2.4 GHz

Octa core and 16GB of RAM okay? That's on my paid work machine which I cannot play games on. This is just a toy that I wanna see how far I can get without spending a penny. Norly... I actually found a soundcard on my brothers corkboard on the door of his room that I might steal and make use of...

Crysis 2 on Ultra 27-45

8GB DDR3 RAM
Intel i7-920 Quad core @2.8GHz
1GB ATI/AMD Radeon HD 6670
Windows 7 64 bit.

We're talking about laptops here bro, of course a PC performs better than laptops. My laptop plays halo fine with OS and motion blur at around 50-70 fps. Just tried CMT's map today too.

My minecraft runs smoothly until the laptop overheats due to incredibly sloppy cooling design from Dell. You can't even open it up fully to get to the "dustbin" to suck it clear from dust. However I find shoving something underneath the laptop to create some airflow below it helps increase the "time-to-overheat" significantly :p

Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
Intel Core i3 2120
4gb DDR3 Ram
1 TB hard drive
AMD Radeon HD 6450 512mb

Now thats a bargain. Of course, I haven't yet installed Halo again...

Whats higher than a terabyte?

My dad's got a Dell laptop. It works fine now... sort of. It used to crash every 10 minutes. Now it only crashes every few hours after some setting tweaks. :P

I wouldn't expect Minecraft to work on that. 1.73 GHz is nowhere near enough to run Minecraft smoothly on high settings. Minecraft uses a voxel engine written in java. Just because the graphics suck, doesn't mean the game's not power hungry. Infinite worlds, remember. There's also a crazy building engine that the game runs on. Additionally, the encounter spawning is fairly power hungry as far as I've learnt from research.

Minecraft is extremely complex. It's often underestimated.

From my experience:

HP < Dell

My HP laptop sucked, quickly began overheating only after a year, graphics card started pooping, etc.

My Dell one, which was the first computer I got, worked amazing, still had relatively nice graphics (this was an XPS), was fast, had XP (lol), and never really overheated.

My computer is a Dell and it runs better than any machine I've ever had, though it's the most powerful.

Only issue is that if the power cable gets moved a bit it turns off, but that only happens when i accidentally kick it.

It really depends on what end you get it at. My current HP Laptop is fantastic, capable of running most games on highest settings (Ultra if the game is stable, unlike Fallout series). I haven't even messed with BSOD yet.
