All my other methods of creating .gifs made it laggy ass hell with crappy quality.

I actually got inspired by CAD to work on the flamethrower after seeing him post.

Hi Jesse.

The only thing I would recommend is to remove most of the darker blue and make it more "gassy," but otherwise it's a good start.

I liked the rings in the old one. Maybe try adding some electric rings around it?

You should darken them just a bit.
Also, do what Darkhalo said. It's a bit too concentrated.

Yea, too concentrated. It seems as if the entire beam is gonna strike the target as opposed to only the one big sphere in the front.

Used a different method for flames.
Edited by Mythril on Jun 3, 2010 at 07:31 AM

Needs to be more spread out, and less accurate, since gas is what is controlling the flames, and would likely disperse.

The blue lines beneath need more luminance- it currently just feels like a blue line. Metal is good imo.

I dont know why pple always use these terrible base textures for metal. they have no scratches or anything. all they look like is noise and coud filters. also, most textures should be baked from 3d models. it is VERY hard (and i only know like 2 pple who have the skill to do this) to paint tiles from scratch.

Download my base metal texture. take a look at how i made it, and make your own. If you want to get any better, i advise you take a look at more advanced tutorials.

you need to have photoshop cs3 or higher to open this file.

add a mask to the oxidized color, and put the light layers under the shape layers. And inner glow on the inner shapes.

looks like you used the smudge brush on a layer behind the planet :/, makes it look hairy like Dee said. And the rings look extremely bland to the planet btw.

The rings need variation, rings like that always have variable sized or grouped particles.
It looks odd where the opacity of the rings show the planet behind, it needs work.

I'm guessing you guys don't like the atmospheric fog ):
I'll try working on some particles/asteroids to add into the ring. Depends on how much effort I put in.
