my only personal issue with it is not so much the sprite, but the opacity, I am not sure how these sprites work if they allow for only on (white) of off (black) opacities or if they will do in-betweens, but it just seems too prominent really like it's not so much that it's a firing discharge but a orange solid mass that comes out the end of the gun. It's just too prominent.

It's just too prominent. Gotcha, I think part of the issue there, is that each time the gun(fun ha! xD yay for spelling errors) fires it spawns multiple sprites which overlap and brighten each other. Was a bit bored today, so made kind of a concept of an alien fighter/bomber aircraft:  Thanks to josh for giving me some modeling tips! And I'm aware I am not a great modeler, I just did this to visualise an idea in my mind. Not sure if I ever plan to become more serious at modeling, we'll see how time progresses :-o And I had fun making it, so that's what counts :-)

I think it would fit the visual style of if more if you had wing mounted cannons, or something like this ship's guns: obviously you could make it more organic looking than that, but that's kinda the idea. btw, you can fix those smoothing errors on the sides of the guns by connecting the verts so that you have some smaller quads, instead of one big n-gon overall, I think it's an interesting concept, although I think the tail fin makes it feel very human, and "un-alien" like. Hah, pretty cool yeah. I guess alot of people have similar ideas of what features an alien flying craft should have :p I made another crappy alien thingy, this time went for a stationary turret:  Frankly I have no idea how to go about detailing these kinds of things, I can get a rough concept made in 3DS Max but I wouldn't have a clue on what techniques to use to create details. Atm all the gun itself has is a little use of the cut tool + extrude and rescaling that extrude... So yeah, if anyone here has some tips, shoot! Edited by TM_updates on Oct 6, 2011 at 08:58 AM

Need an opinion. Which looks better to you all. Halo 3 inspired floor tiles. ignore that line in the texture. It is a crappy shadow due to me not having a ceiling in something that is supposed to have a ceiling and I don't feel like fixing it since it's not what is being judged here. 1: Floor tile without my crappy detail mask? 2: Floor tile with crappy detail mask?

With it, the second one, is nicer, and less contrasted. Maybe you can just bake the detail into the diffuse so it looks like the second one without needing two maps.
