Gauss hogs do not produce flame when fired. They do however have a distortion field that should emanate from the projectile contrail. Remember, it is magnetic not explosive.

I wouldn't say stupid and boring, but I would recommend more of a blurry looking affect coming from the muzzle rather than having it spike out like a plasma grenade affect.

Conceptually, the missile turret will be ideal for long range combat (somewhat), but is mostly effective against aircraft.
