big improvement joddy! though im not quite fond with the skin, as you could've made it less opaque in the diffuse bitmap. either way its much better than your old ones.

I like that character design, especially the arms they remind me of those necromorphrs.

You think Halo's molding tools are clunky, horrible, and limited? Try modding any Call of Duty. I've been modding it ever since WaW came out and have never gotten a map to work because of all of the crappy scripting you need to do just to get a MP map ingame.

uhh, you're kind of late to the party, but I've heard nothing but horrible things about cod's modding engine. friend of mine crapped his pants trying to get his maps in that engine. cod1 and 2 had amazing maps, though, I wonder if it was any easier for those games? still the fact that all the mods are downloadable from the servers, is definitely a step up from halo in my opinion

concept sketches, changes have been made accordingly based on character owner's feedback. trying to nail down a concept he'll be satisfied with

fixes so far:

- transition from wrists to blades
- "thumb" design
- feet do not have claws, but rather transition into hardened points
- tail points more "upward" by default

deleted

this is open for general artistic critique and feedback. keep in mind the character design, however, is not my call, and will not be changed based on feedback received here. i.e. I'm not going to swap out his blades for plasma swords or grenade launchers or battle rifles because some twelve year old thinks it would be "cool"

The blades on the wrists look unnatural and bulky (for lack of a better word). How would the character manipulate objects such as food or tools? Additionally, the character's body structure and how the blades are set up would severely hinder their effectiveness (if this were real life).

this falls under "character design" critique. which, as I said, will likely be disregarded as it is not my character.

but, here, have a blunt backstory. according to the author:

these creatures were created by warlords (as was the world they live in) primarily as pawns/messengers. they are not required to eat as they are sustained by the energy of their creators, though they can be killed. the energy also makes them extremely resilient towards temperature and wounds and increases the effectiveness of their attacks. as for grabbing, there is a gap where the blade connects to the wrist, around where the "thumb" claws are located, that they can use to loosely grab and manipulate objects

so yeah, magic and wizards and crap. realism be damned.

though I have to admit I did make the blades a bit bulky, I think that may have been an involuntary stylization. here's some of the original creator's work for a comparison. be warned, slight gore

How will it naturally hold itself, in the same posture as the one in the picture? Looks to me like it would normally be hunched over more. Also, for balancing purposes, the tail shouldn't be so flexible. Take dinosaurs for example, their tails can counterbalance their torso and head only by being rigid. But of course, if the tail was so rigid on an animal that stands almost straight, it would be a hinderance.
Other thing is, it's a bit illogical that it would have two small claws on its hands flanking a huge claw in the middle. What would the smaller claws do? It might be better if you make the long claw on one of the side fingers instead, like the big toe in the foot, in contrast to the middle finger of the hand. Or you could move it up to some other part of the arm.

obviously need to finish the shape of the head and add feet. for my first shot at a character model it's not turning out as terrible as I'd expected, though I'm sure I need to rework some topology

e2:
deleted

completely redid most of the head, added the feet, tweaked a few body parts. getting the hang of this whole topology thing... slowly. still a ways to go, gotta add the thumbs and the inside of the mouth. got a few triangles I can't get rid of, ugh

then I've got to rig, texture, animate.. then get it in the udk.

what, did you think I was making this for halo? pshh

The tail needs to be bigger at the base or smaller in the middle. And over all somewhat bigger.

now that I look at it tail does need a bit more girth, about 25% thicker should be good. may be my final tweak before I start unwrapping and rigging.. now I just have to learn how to do that junk in blender

base mesh is pretty much done, slapped on a material for color accuracy sake
