Looking at it now I can see a good number of useless faces.(Particularly at the barrel) I will try to decrease the amount when I can, but I'm not sure when that will be.

Just fudging around with simple crap. Deagle. A base model that still needs a lot of details but still a lot better than my SCAR attempt last year I think.
Will work on this when I have the time. Might use this to try my hand at animating. We'll see though. Never tried that before and always wanted to, but yeah we'll see later on.

Almost forgot, yes I do know what key components I am missing.

But no one cares about the poly count as it can be deceiving. Triangle count is what matters.

And the Hammer. Or lack thereof.

A little high I guess, but there are areas I know I can slim down on - that rail on the other side of the gun, for example. 4000 tri's ideally, right?

Custom SMG, as I don't like the in game one. As it's all a matter of preference, any opinions would be great. If there is anything horribly wrong with the model, then if you could let me know of those too! :) Might try to fix the stock, not happy with it.

infact, i put my first weapon ingame (halo reach magnum) with 5700 tris and it ran fine.

also, that thing is hot. I would love to see that ingame

I would recommend making the butt of the gun flatter.

Ahh, okay. I just wasn't sure whether to split those faces up or leave them as is, Max seemed happy with it. Will bear that in mind though, thanks!

I did something weird/daft the other night and I seemed to have generated some open edges, so I will need to go in and fix the vertices anyway :)

Haha, just thought I'd check - by texture hole, do you mean just texture that in afterwards? In my quick in-game test, the holes in the strap loops were just about visible so I felt that it was perhaps necessary to keep that. Again, first time so I am quite happy to get the advice, just thought I'd check.

@Spartan 279: Hehe, thanks! I am quite keen to get the thing finished up, I think it's sad to see loads of clay renders but nothing finished. Hopefully I can avoid falling into that category. I have like, 6/7 more weapons to model after this one though X.X Between me and my other team member, we should get it finished up soon. Maybe over summer so I don't fail at Uni... ^-^

@Eliteslasher: Yeah, the stock has been bugging me; I think it's just poorly resolved - the way the thinner middle part meets the thicker frame around it is... eurgh. Needs moar work. Flattening out the back was a good plan though, looks a bit better now. Thanks!

good to hear they are looking better. Yeah just do what anonymous2009 says there and reduce the polies as much as you can and I think these will look nice.
I see you are new here. Will you be texturing these yourself? Not sure on all what you do.

Yeah, used to be a lurker, but recently decided that my degree bores me and I wanted to do something like this to keep me entertained. I imagine I would be best at doing maps and environment design and/or texturing, as I have experience with that, but I'm going to try out all the bases first and see what grabs me. Modelling is fun, just getting to grips with Max and the general basics really :)

Gonna try making textures for it once the model is acceptable, but I have a feeling the animations will be beyond me...!

Does anyone want to try modeling my original concepts? I can draw some side views and such with more detail, these were only 5 minute sketches. I'll try modeling some of them myself too.

look any better to anyone? I swear I am missing a part cuz something looks off though. Maybe my clip bottom is just too thin. IDK :/

The grip looks too small.

They can't be modelled, draw them properly instead of like a 5 year olds, no offence.

Your problem is simply that some parts of your weapon are out of proportion. The handle is far to small compared to the slide. Other than the handle though, it is looking pretty good.

I have been working on a desert eagle as well (I have found it to be a difficult weapon to model properly.)



Its not done yet, but what do you think?

Considereing the fact I have a desert eagle sitting in front of me I should consider making one just for the heck of it...

And leetslshr as everyone has said: THE GRIP IS TO SMALL!!

I have fired a number of guns (some that I own myself others that family or friends from my church own), but I don't think I have actually ever even seen a desert eagle "in-person".

I have in REAL guns: Desert eagle, Glock 19 (or 18 I can't remember which) 12gauge pump-action shotgun, a M1a (the non-auto M14), and a 6-shot revolver, and an AUG a1.

I have a airsoft M4, M9, M24, AK-47, AK-74u, and a bunch of other stuff.

Ummm no... I actually do have all that there. (Technically I don't own em all though. Well, the AS guns are mine as well as the Glock and the Shotgun) Also the AGU doesn't actually shoot correctly. Since they would normally be full-auto it got "broken"

Thats awesome. The only realy guns I've got are a 50 cal. Civil War era Black Powder rifle, and a Mosin Nagant. Although I have gotten to fire a number of other weapons that people in my church own: Colt 1911, AR-15, 20 Guage, .38 revolver, Glock (19 I think), and a few other guns that I didn't really recognize (a couple of 9 mils and a ton of .22)

And for Airsoft I've got a G3 and a p226.

I'm willing to bet that's a bunch of military surplus. If the police raided their homes, they would confiscate those guns.

Lol, we are reformed baptist. Almost everyone in my church owns at least one gun, and the church itself is very "pro-gun".

I don't know where you live but here in TEXAS 18+ yrs old can buy and own rifles and 21+ yrs old can buy and own handguns. Seriously people, in Texas you don't even need a license to own a gun (The only exceptions are if you plan to carry it as a concealed firearm or if you want to buy a full auto. You can still buy a full auto, but it requires a special license.) all you have to do is have a piece of paper that says who sold it and who bought it (even hand written notes will qualify).

I have a gun store/shooting range just down the street from my house and I can go there at any time and LEGALLY buy a firearm.

My church holds a "father, son, and gun" campout every year. One of our members owns a BUNCH of land out in the country, so we go over to his place and we camp out and do target practice and skeet shooting. (he is the one that owns the AR-15 that I got to fire)
