Because newer games have completely different engines that work in completely different ways when it comes to map sizes and how much they can fit into it.

I replaced some of my bitmaps recently with lower resolution versions. I gained a lot of space in my maps. ._.

FTR if your internet is that sucky, why are you playing CE online? not only do you lag, these people with dial up/broadband connections are CAUSING lag.

so plz, back on topic. making a few LARGE modifications. will post when progress is made.

Even if you really dont care to even model this from the tut, just look at the first few min when he goes and shows the tools. Trust me, even if your things turn out the same, you will end up having awesome models in a few months.

Not all of us play MP.


Actually, we don't cause the lag, the servers do. The players may lag, but as long as the servers don't, the game doesn't actually care. Which is why the player on the other end of my connection never seems to die.

I'm big into older games, especially retro FPSes. I've never seen a data system as insanely space-consuming as CE's. Ever.

What separates CE is absolutely everything is stored inside each individual .map file, assets are not shared out and are locked in. You can't make a .map file to hold content that can be used in other maps. Had that been a feature, you could have a global CMT content .map of 100 MB, and a map pack with maps that would be probably no more than 10MB. You could have ten maps, and have that come to a total of 200 MB rather than 1,000 MB.

The result of CE's system is ridiculous sized cache files.

You should not be able to see the flag on the 1st frame of the ready animation. It needs to come into view. Otherwise when you switch weapons, it will abruptly be in your face.

the texture hides most of the smoothing problems
