nearing completion on the textures, need to re-bake a lot of the maps due to changing geometry/textures. click the P3D link above or the one below to see the update.

I'm afraid your AR looks a bit like a plastic toy at the moment.
Perhaps have another look at a texturing tutorial.

look at the engine specs of p3d; while an unintentional side effect, it should be obvious that the appearance of the material is not my doing.

I'm simply comparing it to the H3 AR you posted. There is a big plastification effect going on in yours at the moment.

I would imagine the h3 rifle looks more plastic, but that is more due to using the diffuse as a specular texture, as the specular needs to be redone.

that;s pretty cool though, if not completely incidental, given the fact that no one would ever see it in-game unless they knew what to look for (and even then, it would be pretty hard to see without activating the debug camera)

Yeah it's possible. Just use a scrolling bitmap, like my sniper rifles or teh_lag's jackal shields.

it's a composite map with a completely black material at the bottom, a gradient ramp turned 90 degrees with blue, dark blue, blue as the color points(so I can change the darkness with the percent slider) and a hexagon pattern with the dimensions equal to the aspect ratio times 15, set to color dodge with a gradient overlay.

Yes, it is ripped. Also, I just applied the diffuse textures, not the speculars.

it took nearly a year for reach content and we are already starting with halo 4.

must have been a helluva lot easier to get past the encryption this time

just like reach the models have been available to rip for a while but not publicly available.
