I made some weapon designs, anyone want to model them?

ohh if i wasn't so busy with work for my modeling class, wait actually i may take a look at that especially that large one on the second page (i'm assuming its a pistol). i may start on it after i finish porting the reach marines. that is if life doesn't get in the way.

Boltshot? That reminds me of a boltshot. I don't know, it's just the shape...

What kind of weapons would they be? Make a pistol-sized grenade launcher, and I love you. Make it a third weapon, and I kiss you.

oddly enough, I made these sketches back in 2011, but just now scanned them

one of those guns is an automatic grenade launcher (it's in the first pic)

If you want, I can do some better drawn breakdowns of the weapons that interest you, just circle the ones you like.

Here's a concept from the canceled Halo MMORPG: a sawn-off Brute Shot.

if you need help baking normals, send the model my way. other than that, if the mesh is made up of separate parts, put space between the different UV groups and bake the normals per part. also, you are better off adding pre-baked normals for the finite details such as those nail holes and that zig-zag line; that way the smoothing groups stay relatively intact without ugly wrinkles.

lol needler

for those of you who can't see a needler in this;

still a heavy WIP

@silentjacket; those guns look pretty cool, but they look like they would be uncomfortable to hold in human hands. try drawing dots where fingers would go on the handle and seeing if replicating that position is ungainly for a gun. no one wants to have their hand mutilated for military purposes.

still a heavy WIP, but you can refer to my concepts I think in the semi-gallery nonsense thread to see what it should look like when finished.

This looks great, I would suggest keeping the rounded top where the needle protrude though. Other than that I prefer this design the the actual needler. Looks much heavier.

That looks like a sweet needler. But looks sub divided?

As for the shotgun, you could probably remove alot of the detail and use it in a normal map to conserve polycount.

Why doesn't anybody post a wireframe :(

If the topology is bad, then you can't bake the model right.

Well it looks like that model is composed mostly of quads so I think it would be fine. But I think that model is quite nice, really nice. I think Stryking was asking for opinions on how it looks though.

You have no idea what your on about do you? On high poly mesh's the topology only matters if it's really retarded but you WOULD see the errors in the viewport majority of the time.

So no, wire's are not really needed at all for a highpoly mesh. It will bake fine.

I remember you telling me that it was all bad not having quads and that I should fix them right away.
Edited by mastur cheef on Dec 13, 2012 at 01:54 AM

You should fix them but that's not always the case. Tris can slide if they don't cause any issues, especially on high poly models.

They are a bad practice to have, but if they produce no visual errors which should stand out in the viewport then they can be lived with.

that needler looks BEAST. better than the same model over and over that bungie recycled. sure, the stock was longer in reach but they never did anything really innovative with its design. kudos!

That's not a problem. That's just what it does. You don't use the flatten tool to make UV maps.

Select edges around the model for seams and than either unfold or pelt map etc.

No it wouldn't lol. Ctrl + A. These are what we call a "seam" is:

Think of seams in 3ds max like seams on your clothing. Originally they were flat pieces of cloth and than were stitched up to form a t-shirt.

Select the edges you want to become a seam and click tools>break in the UVW window. This will detach it from its current faces. Read more on seams and how they are used in UVW'ing etc

Eh,I saw some special staplers (used for construction) that are actually shaped kind of like a gun.

Yeah, theres actually a lot of different kind of staplers.
Office,
the one I posted,
Air powered (what I think you're thinking of. I have a couple of these for floors and trim)
Hammer tacker (they jam like a bitch)
and a ton of other ones but those are the ones I know off.

with a gun like the boltshot (and many other PROMEETHEEIN weapons), it would be better to model each piece separately rather than a single mesh. especially since it comes apart :U

My guess is ~220 but it is probably something closer to like... 64 or something stupidly small.
