@Spartan 314 -- Bobblehob's picture shows it right after firing, so it's not a great reference for origins.

It's more of his interpretation of each games' color themes....

I love the Reach one best! though, yeah, I'd really like to see those hexagonal decals, too. I really loved CMT's Plasma Rifle with it.

Halo 3 needler is my favorite. I also recommend to keep away from the hexagons, they just don't make any sense and look pretty horrid imho.

What's a color theme?
He made the Halo 3 and 4 "interpretations" almost exactly the same as the original but he does not do the same for Reach.
What is up with that?

so the general consensus seems to be a tie between the H3 and HR, so I'll deal with that later.

I've been thinking of possible ways to stick a clip into the gun, but since the base design is similar to the needler rifle's, I drafted 2 possible reload slots.

I don't quite understand the first one, what's going on and such. The second one seems like it could make for interesting reloads (flip it over is what I'd do), but it doesn't particularly make sense as the needles stick out from the top and not the bottom, so it would be more effective to have the power source closer.

If you could show us how the first option would work, then I could think about supporting that idea..
