Heck, Bungie even admitted/has told people they found lots of inspiration from Aliens.

Pretty much everyone around that time who made a sci-fi movie or video game took loads of inspiration from Aliens.

I think that it is literally impossible to find anything that hasn't taken ideas from, borrowed materials from, uses the same technique as, or been inspired by something else. As an example, google "Four Chords."

Finally beat it on normal. It is a truly excellent map and I am having a lot of fun playing it over again with different weapons and strategies. I agree with TM_updates on the spawn point and the teammate's weakness, but I also thought that the weapons disappeared too quickly. More times that I could count I would kill an Elite, watch him drop three plasma grenades, turn away for one second to punch a Grunt, and then look back to find that my loot had vanished before I could grab it.

The player spawn point is where it is because it is near the ammo and health, as well as the main panels. The player is actually invincible for about 5 seconds after spawning, and the AI ignore the player for the first few seconds as well. If AI are camping the base, you can hide behind the wall where the 2 panels are and draw them in one at a time.

Yes, but generally trying to hide behind a wall at the main base still got me shot to death by some of the higher ranking Elites once they stopped ignoring me, and the five seconds aren't enough to get to any other defensible location in time. I would prefer a more secluded spawn point.

Tactical Assault, Halo Covert Ops (e10-e60), Project Subterfuge (even if it was a beta), and Epsilon SP Final.

For firefight maps I like Portent, Airlock, Dead Halls, and Mud Skirmish.

I had to play the .map file (because I'm pretty sure my laptop would explode if it tried the full version, it's a pathetic excuse for a computer). There isn't that much I can criticize, except a few faint outlines on the HUD that were out of place (such as a second circle for the radar slightly to the side), and a spot on the second encounter where an elite spawned inside a rock.

Also, when I turned dynamic lighting off my flashlight wouldn't illuminate the terrain. It would work on the bushes and rocks, but for the ground and walls it would do nothing. Combined with the fact that it's a lot darker than the first, it was much harder to navigate the level until I re-enabled dynamic lighting.

Is there going to be CMT ODST drop pods?
would be cool to have some odst drop in during the campaign.

not many maps could offer drop pods in good places
maybe a30 or b30... actually there's a lot of places.

It might be interesting, but at the end of the first level, the PoA crashed... so where are the pods coming from?

"Who are you?"
"What is that?"
"Oh hey, you're the lady from the test. Hi!"

I got the feeling that there were too many vehicles. There is one part where if you walk there is a mongoose two seconds away from a mongoose two seconds away from another mongoose two seconds away from a chopper. For a small map, this is a little overkill.

Also, I was happy that I was able to knock all four bipeds off of their perch on the tower without using devmode... shortly before I was disappointed by the fact that I couldn't kill them

I love how everyone says Halo is a cash cow. These guys make video games to make MONEY. That's the only reason they make the games. If they can make money, THEY ARE. You're all stupid if you wouldn't take the chance to make money. Business isn't about letting people have fun, it's about the dollar sign.

I'm assuming that you have never heard about 5 dollar games before.

I am insulted when I hear that because I myself am going into the video game industry...already in it actually. It wont be a popular top-selling game(first of all, it was made on PC so you can't expect that. lol the truth hurts) but we had fun doing it.

Making a game by ourselves, a team of youths, making our own little world where we can do anything we want then entering that world; it gives you a funny feeling. Plus sharing the world with everyone, receiving their comments and all would give you a sense of pride.

In fact, anyone that chooses the job(e.g. programming) for the money is stupid. You will always be tired eveyday and will frequently have moments where you will search for a meaning in your life. Choose the job that you actually find enjoying.

The reason people make goods (i.e. video games) is self interest. Self interest does NOT mean greed. A chef may make delicious meals for people because he loves to do it, but he still needs to make a profit for two reasons: A.) he needs to pay his bills, and B.) in order purchase necessary items for his business so he can continue to make food. He might also use his profits for a charity, or a bunch of useless jewelry, or to help is family, or to spend it all in a casino.

Regardless of how he uses it, in the end he sells his services to make a profit. So do video game companies. So does everyone else. It's not really a bad thing. Because of people wanting to make money, you have great tasting food, working medicine, fun video games, and efficient technology.

This is pretty much it. If they make a good game, they make a lot of money, and will probably make sequels. If they make a bad game, then they don't get as much money, and their credit is ruined. This provides the motivation for them to make a great game that the consumer enjoys. Welcome to economics.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO YOYORAST IS THE PRIDE OF HALOMAPS if it did make into the remake they better list halo maps and the map's creator.

No, just no. No one cares about Yoyorast on the forum. Old map is old.
Edited by goldkilla88 on Jun 8, 2011 at 10:31 PM

Old doesn't isn't the same thing as bad. Halo: Combat Evolved is old, yet everyone's still playing it or making maps for it (and obviously the Anniversary Edition is about to be released).

It's the planet shown in the Halo 3 Legendary ending.

...which they now just completely killed. Honestly, I thought Bungie ended Halo beautifully (TWICE, Reach's ending was brilliant as well!) with the "Wake me, when you need me," and the set-up for Cortana and Chief drifting off through space or something for "hours, days, years even" yet here 343i just raped that whole ending by having him wake up a few minutes later.

How did you know it was a few minutes later? There was no indication of how much time had passed, it could have been centuries for all we know.

Not all of the achievements have to take an hour. I've been taking references from over games and mixing everything up.
Edited by goldkilla88 on May 31, 2011 at 03:24 PM

I don't expect all of the achievements to be challenging. I just think that they should require some effort, instead of simply changing your color, or joining an online game. I'm fine with the ones that are easy (double kill, splatter, time-for-testing, etc.) as long as they have to be achieved.

Halo CE General Discussion » If you could add Achievements to CE... May 31, 2011 01:51 PM (Total replies: 132)

I don't like these because they'd be too easy/pointless to get (except the aimbot one. I don't support cheating):
Quote: --- Original message by: goldkilla88
Noooooo Aimbot - Kill someone using an aimbot.
My Game, My Rules - Make a Custom Game-Type.
Playin' with Buddies - Play on a LAN Server.
XFire FTW! - Use XFire-InGame.
Watch the Steam... - Launch Halo via Steam.
I Like Turtles - Play a Non-Team game with the color Green.
Stealth Ninja - Play a non-team game with the color black.
I'm part of the sky! - Play a non-team game with the color blue/light blue.
Colorless - Play and non-team game with the color white.
Covered in Blood - Play a non-team game with the color red.
Winter Cruelty - Play on a cold, winter based map.
Summers Delight - Play on a warm, summer based map.

Here are some challenge achievements I have for the campaign (must be done on Normal or higher).

Fear my Fist - Complete the Pillar of Autumn using only melee attacks.
Safely Delivered - Have only 3 or less marines die on the level Halo.
"What the hell am I supposed to do with this INSIDE a Covie Ship?" - Use only the Sniper Rifle and one other gun to complete Truth and Reconciliation. (Grenades don't count. Picking up a weapon doesn't count as using it, shooting it does.)
They Never Saw it Coming - Stealthily kill all of the Covenant on the bottom floor of the Silent Cartographer before the Active Camouflage runs out and you activate the map.
Seven Foot Tall Walking Tank - Clear the Assault on the Control Room without entering a vehicle.
Hide and Seek - Find the hidden marine.
Escort Expert - Make sure no more than 3 marines die during the final escape of 343 Guilty Spark.
Tonight You Dine in Hell - In The Library, kill 300 Flood... with a pistol.
That's one Way to Save Ammo - Exit a Banshee to make it fall on an enemy in Two Betrayals
Gotta Run! - Finish Keyes within 3 minutes 30 seconds of obtaining the Neural Implants.
Hit and Run - Explode all engine cores within 5 minutes of entering the engine room in The Maw.
You Could Use a Nice Cold One - Listen to what the talking grunt has to say in The Maw.
Challenge Accepted - Complete all of these challenges.

There's a second floor on cabin fever? ಠ_ಠ

There's the ground floor, the basement, and the second floor.

And Cabin Fever wouldn't make a good infection map, as it's A.) too small, B.) will have everyone camping at the top of the stairs to the second floor, and C.) simply wasn't designed for that. It was designed for the slow moving AI's that don't use strategy.

Halo CE General Discussion » If you could add Achievements to CE... May 27, 2011 12:16 AM (Total replies: 132)

Can you even do that with Custom Edition's engine? It never seemed to work for me...

>Secondary Objectives
>>Help Marines stop covenant from getting into the engine room and blowing up the engines reactor. (Just a holdout for a small part, with Marines)

Characters
..Unnamed two-ODST in your squad, dies during the holdout. Weapon: Battle Rifle

I'm guessing that the secondary objectives are optional, so if the player doesn't do the holdout does the ODST live?

well i would've found it pretty dang obvious. The one big button in the middle.....

I may be wrong, but I don't think that the Covenant are stupid enough to have a "deactivate button" sitting on their bomb. They probably have a way to deactivate it, but it would be more complicated and kept hidden, rather than a big button in the middle of the bomb in plain sight. I always thought that the Master Chief was inserting Cortana into the bomb's computer system (or whatever it uses) so she could stop it.
