Ok i had a question about exact portals. I was wondering if i could use them to keep water out of certain areas. You know how it is, put a building under water, and it automaticaly has water inside of it. Can you use exact portals or regular portals to prevent this, so you can have a building with doors underwater but not have water in it? Edited by MechWarrior001 on Jul 5, 2007 at 09:26 AM

No. Water will go through the map. Just create the water faces where you want them to go and keep them out of everywhere else.

make where you dont want the water alpha this would require making a new water texture, which is very easy white where you want there to be water and black where you want there to be no water, but this wont get rid of fog, im not 100% sure but i think exactportals can be made so that fog only appears in certain areas, so by makeing these arounf your place you wont want fog may keep the fog out

Portals are used section off the map. Level portals and exact portals. Level portals are used for outdoor areas and exact portals are used on doorways, halls and any other opening. What any portal will do is help with the map being rendered. Level portals work ok but still have some issues of areas being rendered that should not be. An exact portal will keep the outside world from rendering. When you are in a structure the areas you can't see on the outside are not rendered. This helps out a ton with frame rate and other performace issues. Portals also help you set up sound enviroment, wind, weather and so on. An exact portal will not do what you are wondering.
