I would be just as happy with a completely empty forum. This forum is not for me. It is for you guys and has been put here as a safe place to learn about and share knowledge about Halo CE and Halo 2 Vista Maps and making custom content. I made the rules very simple. Your cost of entry to is to abide by them.
A number of you haven't and it has become abundantly clear that I have to take measures to further enforce the rules. Removing signatures completely it one of them. If you create your own image signature within the message, the message runs the risk of being deleted.
Last night a few people exploited a flaw in the Forum software and purposely uploaded avatars knowing full well that the feature was disabled. The flaw in the software has been corrected. Exploiting this flaw, even though it did not cause any damage and as innocent as it may seem, is a violation of the first rule: It was hacking other people's software, in this case mine. The offenders have been banned and all posting privileges revoked.
The real issue is these cases is the lack of respect this shows to the majority of other rule abiding users and a lack of respect for me. I only ask that you abide by the rules to be here. I abhor treating people like children but the few of you who refuse to act properly leave me no choice.
If you do not like it here please go somewhere else, no hard feelings; Go. Don’t try to get around the rules: Abide by them or leave. Don't abide by them and you will be escorted to the door.

Quote: --- Original message by: Saint James If i may ask a simple questoin, why cant we have custom avatars? Quote: --- Original message by: H Guru people will probably end up uploading anything then it will end up like the sigs That is exactly correct. When the avatar upload was enabled people would upload huge images for their avatar instead of the 65X65 pixel size they would upload 1280X1024 sized images and slow the page loads. I did not write this forum software so when I find things like this my options are to disable them or re-write them. Although I have re-written many parts of the forum, I have not had time yet to correct the avatar portion and install image re-sizing software. The Avatar upload was disabled but a flaw in the code exposed the upload page via a JavaScript hack. That has been corrected. Now the upload page won’t run when the avatar uploads are disabled. When I have time to update the avatar code I will enable it again and allow custom avatars. But for now it is off.

Moral of the story: Be happy with what you got, if you get extra things, don't abuse them.

If you ever allow sigs back, could it be possible that if someone go's over the largest signature size in the rules it auto makes it smaller/not allow it?

As I explained in the other thread. It doesn't scale. As a mater of fact it scales miserably. 2 calls per image X 30 images per page X 200 pages per hour = more than 12000 calls. average of 0.1 seconds per call (no timeouts) = 20 minutes per hour lost. The forum has more than 5 times that traffic.
