I'm sort of kind of maybe possibly starting the groundwork for a HUD tutorial of sorts.

Probably.

But if I did, what would be a better format? A video with VoiceOver on how to do things? Or a thread with pictures 'n stuff? Once SPV3 is released, I can use my handwritten notes from the HUD work to create a repository of information. (It uses a lot of the cool stuff I've developed)

What tools would I use, 3ds (which is my thing now) or PS? (I don't use illustrator)

I would even like to use HTML stuff the same way the HEK tutorial works, with hierarchies and and 'chapters' that cover different sections. (If I could do such a thing.)

Regardless, I'd do my best to cover any and all possible questions, and if the tutorial was created in a format that could be edited with input from the community, I could address specific questions in the tutorial itself.
Any and all suggestions are welcome.

I'd say definitely a voice over. In my opinion you can learn quicker by listening and working, as opposed to having to constantly look at different monitors or alt+tab to ensure they're following the information.

Make a real time video. No voice over because you are bound to miss important stuff unless you have a pre determined bullet points or whatever.

If your self concious about your voice pm me a script and I'll voice it over.

Its cool that your doing this btw.

Initial voiceover will small notes on screen for important points seems like a good idea to me.

Videos. A lot of old forum tutorials which are text/images are pretty useless because the screenshots aren't being hosted anymore for whatever reason. I don't know if they deleted their photobucket, imgur, whatever but I can't see what was originally uploaded. Videos are timelessish.

Yes, I don't want what happened to my old thread to happen to my new tutorials. If I did make it text/screenshot based, it'd be all on a PDF from the start. I might make one anyway to accompany the videos I make.

I can speak spanish just fine, but my spelling is... Atrocious. I'd love to have you translate my tutorials, whether text or audio. Perhaps we can have dual audio on any videos I make! I'd like to upload the videos to my YouTube account (and halomaps for archiving).

I prefer annotated screenshots. They can be viewed directly in a web page and downloaded and archived, and upon viewing, you don't need to pause playback intermittently or download lots of extraneous data.

Do a series of screenshots with annotations in them, such as circling buttons to click on. And have 1-sentence captions for each screenshot.

If you wanted to get really fancy, you could use an .info file.

Can you use free programs like GIMP instead of Photochop (lel I made a funny punny)?

I meant .chm or older .hlp help files:

http://www.techrepublic.com/blog/windows-and-office/how-to-run-legacy-help-files-in-windows-7/
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=91
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/917607
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft_Compiled_HTML_Help (can't believe I just referenced something from wikipedia, ugh)

I think PS and GIMP are similar enough that basic instructions should translate. I'm not going to focus on the tools used too much because I have to assume people already have some experience with them. I'd like to basically just say "make a bitmap however you want, give it an alpha channel like this, and done", and then focus on working with then in guerilla.

Those .info files look like what I wanted. Do they support images? I really like the way the HEK tutorial that came with Halo is setup, with since background and heirarchichal links.

Yup, they even support animated gifs. I think that makes them great for making documentation

I was working on one in the WIP topic, the .chm file. But I procrastinate since I haven't actually touched halo in years, so I stopped

You should work on it!

So I can totally swoop in and mooch your work, all for the sake of creating the best HUD tutorial that ever existed!
