Hello, new to the forums here and I'm sorry in advance if this isn't where it needs to be. I'm relatively new to the whole idea of game design and I was wondering if I could gather some input or some opinions. I've been looking around and wondering if it would be possible to recreate Halo CE using the Unity engine and publishing it to play on your iPhone/iPod or Android devices. I know of a project that was abandoned a few years back due to lack of motivation if you will, halo4iphone or iHalo if you will. Halo4iphone ran off of the Quake engine, because of that, the graphics weren't that great, but it was easy to edit. What do you guys think? Thank you in advance for the input.

Welcome to the forums!

I don't think microsoft would be really happy about it. I consider it a miracle that they even allowed CE to be ported to PC, let alone with modding tools (knowing what they did to the halo 2 editing kit, and not even releasing anything past that).

Legal issues aside, HaloCE on unity is totally possible. Anything is, actually. The only reason why it hasn't been done (aside from legal issues, again), is because of the immense time and effort it takes to develop a game. Seriously. It's one thing to want to develop a game, but it's a whole other thing to actually do everything involved start to finish. ESPECIALLY if you're on your own.

So yeah. It's not impossible, but it's a LOT to get into.

Heed his advice, hes from 2008.

+ there are so many key inputs for the game how would you expect someone to translate all the binaries into touch form?

Unless.. you made it side scroller.....

Oh and spartan strike was released for ios and ipad & windows phone 8 as well as windows 8, incase you were looking for ideas.

Weirdly however they seemed on skip on android....

Even though it holds 70-75%? of the global market share.......

Halo for IOS may not be as impossible as it sounds. Halo was originally created for Mac, it was then switched to PC when microsoft bought into it but a Mac OS version was released. this would have been written at least partially in Objective C which is also used (along with swift now days) to code IOS apps, so assuming you were able to decompile it to source (Which is illegal) then you might be able to port it over to IOS, however getting it onto the app store is another question.

This isn't something I want to publish and sell. This is something I want to do to give to the jailbreak community for free.

which is even more illegal than if it were over the store, but just saying this is one thing, unless you have an extensive knowledge of programing and know how to correctly decompile the software then reprogram it for IOS along with the many, many other changes and steps you would need to take then forget it. It's not worth the trouble.

So I can't make a home brew remake with my own models and give it away for free legally?

not if your still branding it as halo, seriously people, actually read up on copyright laws some time. if your gonna make a shooter, make your own models, and your own game, don't port something you don't own the rights too unless you have permission.
