your loss
verbal garbage
inb4 dennis thread lock.. but I'm going to bite the bait here.
Steam is the single biggest online game distribution platform.
But Mookz already gave you that information so that's not what you want to hear.
In the past decade internet availability expanded, along with speeds/bandwidth etc, and with it came a increase in piracy.
To combat it, the first measures were 'CD-Keys' and the like. Then came Online DRM (Digital Rights Management).
But wanting to protect your own Software isn't something games started, Music, Movies, all the big industries do it
(and rightfully so).
You may be used to "
i pay and buy a game from someone, the deal ends right there!", and I'm going to assume you are referring to buying physical copies of games, in which case you are probably used to typing out those long 'CD-Keys'. a practice that basically accomplishes the same thing.
Steam came along when an enterprising Valve Software saw the digital future of online gaming and gaming in general. A platform for people to keep games owned and organized, with infrastructure to facilitate patching/updates, DLC, and multiplayer play.
So with that out of the way lets point out where you are horribly misinformed:
Quote: and as a bonus, stay online too while play games??!
This is not true, usually games only requires that you be online to download and install the game, and the only time always-online is used is through the now dead GFWL and ever awful UPlay.
And if it is a multiplayer game, it most likely makes use of SteamWorks which is used to host servers and other services so it's only normal that you have to be on Steam.
Quote: they can F off, i'd rather buy fking pirate game!
This is exactly the kind of behavior that lead to the existence of Steam...
Maybe you're young? Maybe you're out of touch because you are old? Either way, you sound very ignorant and naïve about how you think the games industry should work.
