Have always enjoyed these. Glad to see a new one. Unrelated, but I've got to ask though. Quote: --- Original message by: MatthewDratt How long until we make it standard to have the fingers on the spartan's 3rd person model animated? Don't tell me it's not possible, it is. Inb4 that's how to properly hold a gun. http://i.imgur.com/wrLox0U.jpg

I told you not to do that. Now I'm going to need to learn how to skin in 3ds. Give me an hour or two. Edited by A Juicy Frank on Jan 17, 2016 at 07:46 AMWould've gone by so much better if I knew wtf I was doing in 3ds. Lo and behold, finger nodes on the spartan's 3p model. Sapien view (pic above)In-gameI used CMT's most recent spartan model once I'd realized the stock spartan model's fingers were welded together, as it was the most readily available. Had a bit of fun learning basic skinning. The palm area of the spartan was pretty hard to maneuver around, and my lack of experience in max didn't help at all. I'd finished rigging the fingers and tried exporting when I got an error asking for the skin modifier to be on top of the stack ( http://i.imgur.com/Sx5QcGF.png). No reason for it, considering it was selected, active, and on the top the whole time ( http://i.imgur.com/sgdtAth.png). Rather than waste any more time, I just had Bobby's explode mesh script divide the model into sections to be linked to individual nodes. This allowed me to export without a skin, and is why it looks like there's missing geometry between the digits and limbs. After that, a simple collision model was made as well as a few quick re-exports of existing spartan animations. Obviously the finger movements are exaggerated by me to show that there's nodes there, primarily because we can't use render_model_nodes in-game. Yes, everything looks like crap, but that's because I'm doing the animating. Animated fingers, toes, hair, or weenies are very much possible. In order to clean this up into a state worth using, I'll need to get past that error, and actually get some talent in animating. Then we can get some of this . 34. Added 2 bones for each finger (even though in reality we've 3 joints for each digit), but didn't do any thumbs. Still has all the default nodes intact. I'm starting to think the misconception people have is that every node on a biped needs to be prefixed bip01. They don't. This is how the flood have tenticles and sacks, the hunter has those spines, and the elite has its mandibles. It is important for every biped to have the proper bip01 nodes, since some experiments have shown that the autoaim pill used by both bullet and reticle magnetism are tied to the root node up to the bip01 head node. We're definitely not limited to using only bip01 prefixes though. Even if just for cinematics, I'd love to see a well structured biped with proper finger curling and swapping animations (yes, they too can be done. Without OS. ...Or at least the pull-out animation can since there's no usable put-away animation block right now). Matt, be the first to give us spartan jazz hands in game.Edited by A Juicy Frank on Jan 17, 2016 at 12:44 PM
