look, I want to get this on the road right, so what I need right now, is people to recommend what 5 maps we use for this. I would prefer these maps to be available off this site, and not be too buggy either, but at the end of the day what I am looking for is 16 or more people that just want to have some fun and play some games. so PLEASE, post what maps you recommend, form up some 4 man squads and lets get this show on the road. I'm not asking why someone else's map selection sucks, I just want to hear YOUR choice.

I vote Bigass V. 2.069
>Win the game by camping at the hill near the enemy base with a sniper/gauss rifle/tank: The map

Nah thanks

OT: I'd join. It's been a while since I've done something like this, should be fun. Due to Australian Internet being literally cancer I don't expect to go too well, but hey.

I vote for:
-TM Immolate
-Garden CE
-Downrush 1.5
-Zerohour 1.5
-Portent

10k POA
10k Halo
MLG Amplified
$$$$$$$$$

I also got a suggestion, but it probably ain't much of a competitive map compared to the others: DMT Ohh Low PLanes.

Just trying to wrap my head around your criteria for map selection, based on the maps that are being considered:

  • Map must be custom

  • H2/H3/H4 rips count as custom because "some people put alot of work into porting them over"

  • Maps can use any tagset, of varying quality and balance, under the sun

  • Maps can have bugs/miscellaneous geometry errors/phantom BSP's (see: Portent, Garden CE, Ivory Tower Final, Midship)

  • Maps need to support all the gametypes if we're going to be using Slayer117's idea

I like your enthusiasm but this is a recipe for disaster. Tournaments are great for ensuring competitive matches and measuring player/team skill, but the above criteria are will only hamper competition.

THAT BEING SAID, if that's the type of tournament people want to play, I can respect that. Count me in.

I'll try to organize something a little more serious when the rest of the h1.5 maps roll out.

these two are not part of the criteria, and I would prefer them not to be in this tournament.

Garden CE and portents bugs are not too bad, where as mid-ship is a no.

pretty much what I want to see is well known and acceptable maps that work well with competitive game play and support multiple game types.

By acceptable I mean not something like super wakey fun time.

currently the most popular are

Downrush_h1.5
Zerohour_h1.5
Portent
Garden CE

these are all well respected maps and the bugs aren't too bad.

the 10k maps are also quite popular however they are also quite buggy and therefore are not good choices to select.

As for tagset, well, the above maps, which seem to be the most popular have a very nicely balanced tag set ideal for this sort of thing.

Garden CE's phantom BSP's are bad, and Portent's is right in the middle of the main room. I would argue that gridiron is more stable than at least Garden CE, but only because Portent is so big that there's only a slim chance that people will encounter the Phantom BSP. Garden is smaller and I end up shooting the phantoms almost every time I play it.

How about using Delta Halo instead of garden?

Excluding garden I think the remaining three are viable options.

so that simply leaves two to decide, because it seems that the other three are all rather popular.

Also here is the Tournament page:

http://xfire.com/tournament/5709

Finally we are gonna need to set up a host and possibly streaming for this.

Delta Halo has equally bad phantom BSP's.

Then again, it isn't like this is some sort of super-hardcore tournament. Maybe I'm being too picky.

yeah, I agree, but at the same time, he hasn't volunteered any ideas that suit the task better, yes its great saying something isn't good, but at least give an alternative.

One more thing, I may or may not be here for this thing, so does anyone round here have the ability to host this?

Umm I was joking about the buggy stuff for the most part. If anything 10kPOA is the least buggy.

1) Grove Final
2) 10kPOA
3) Portent
4) No Remorse
5) TM Immolate.

ok, before you go and try to join it you need to get together 3 other people, so that you can form a 4 man squad, I'd be more than happy to join you, look up Jobalisk on Xfire when you go to create it, and yeah, call the squad whatever you want

ok, honestly, this is how I would like to run it. 4 teams of 4 members, competing across 5 maps meaning 20 rounds total, each round players have 5 lives each (to keep the time down)
the game types will be T-Slayer and CTF. I will need someone to come forward and host the server. points wise 3 for win, 2 for draw or 1 for loss, most points at the end of the tournament wins.

as for times, I can indeed organize it to be a bit later.

maps will be:

Downrush_h1.5 --Slayer
Zerohour_h1.5 --CTF
no_remorse --Slayer
Portent --CTF
-TM Immolate --Slayer

I suggest you download and check these maps out before it begins/

I don't have any map suggestions, but for the workings, I would suggest 4 man squads in 2x4 or 4x4 rounds, double elimination.

I could potentially host as I have highly reliable internet with pretty decent speed (70 down 15 up on a slow day)

Obviously, I am interested in this.

sounds good. it's already set to 4x4 single elimination, but I'll switch it to double, if you could host would be great, the link to the xfire page is somewhere on this forum.

votes are now closed, I've established an underlying trend and I've made the map selection (which includes no remorse) now if we can form some 4 man teams that would be good, one 4 man team is already registered, and me + Scarfox have half assembled another (two spots still open, PM scarfox. so that just leaves two more teams of 4 to make up. the link to the tournament page on XFire is here:

here is the map lineup:

Downrush_h1.5 --Slayer
Zerohour_h1.5 --CTF
no_remorse --Slayer
Portent --CTF
-TM Immolate --Slayer

So is the time (Dec 18 at 2:25 EST) on the website when you actually plan to start? Because I'm occupied starting around 2:30 to around 9:15 or later on the 18th. I can still set the server up to be automated, but I can't actually control it actively.

On a related note, I'm gonna need some people to test out the server and gametypes and whatnot.

Did you have a practical method for doing the 4x4 setup, considering there's only 2 teams on team type games? Just set FFA and have each team pick a color or something?

ok, then, I can schedule it later. what times?

my original plan for this tournament was get 16 people together and just have a straight 5 rounds of FFA with 16 points going to the winner of each round right down to 1 point for the loser. I still think this is probably the best way to do it, its certainly the easiest.

Earlier. If you can approximate how long it'd take, I'd appreciate if we can finish by 2:15EST Dec18/ 7:15AM GMT Dec19

ok then, change of plans, that's what we're gonna be doing^ 16 man FFA, no squads, on a rotation of all 5 maps, end of the last map, add all points together and declare a winner.

###Important Update###

New Tournament Page for 16 man FFA tournament (because it's easier to do and stuff):

http://xfire.com/tournament/5717

time has also been changed to 11.30AM NZ Time on the 18th

that should be about 5.30PM US Time on the 17th
