Making a trailer? Here are some tips to help make your trailer:
1) Record and use game audio in the mix.
--- Don't just use straight music. Add some gun sounds to it (and make sure to mute any ingame music).
2) Cut to the beat
--- Songs have beats and rhythms. Make use of them!
3) Make use of dramatic tension in the song
--- Song amping up? Amp up the footage!
4) Use a mixture of first person and third person footage.
--- You can never go wrong with a mixture.
5) Avoid using common music.
--- We all love those classic halo/trailer songs but they get old after a while.
Examples:
Halo: Revolution -
CE3 2015 TrailerRecording straight gameplay? You can record straight gameplay or you can also throw some commentary or an interview on top!
If its a
singleplayer map, make sure to pick the most interesting point in the map. Pick a point with a good build up of action. Starts off with simple gameplay, but let the action ramp up. Typically ending with a cliff hanger is a good idea to give people one last punch before your video ends.
Examples:
Takedown: Project Lawson Gameplay -
Spleen GameplayIf its
multiplayer, show off what makes your map unique! Multiplayer straight gameplay is usually the most boring so try to find a way to make it memorable.
Examples:
Halo StarWars -
Forge WorldAs you can see, some examples take both a trailer and straight gameplay and mix it into one. You can never go wrong with a mixture.
Remember PacingPacing is super important! For both gameplay and trailers. Don't just shoot, reload, shoot, repeat for 8 minutes. BORING. Switch things up and keep it interesting.
CE3 2016 will air August 2016.If you are submitting a project, we want to see a rough draft 2 weeks before your deadline. This will help avoid broken rules and we can give you feedback on what we'd cut and why we'd cut it. Hopefully this will help you guys make your projects the best.
- If you are submitting a map file, you will need to submit your file 3 weeks before the show.
- If you are submitting a video, you will need to submit your video 2 weeks before the show.
Don't have a 16:9 monitor? You can force Halo to run in a certain resolution. We will only accept videos in 16:9.
Right-click your shortcut and go to Properties On the target line, add -vidmode height, width, refresh rate
"...\Halo\halo.exe" -vidmode 1920,1080,60
Me and Kozakuu are the best to get in contact with regarding trailers.
Slow Bullet (slow.bullet on skype) and the (SBB) team are the best to get in contact with regarding testing maps both singleplayer and multiplayer.
If you need help developing your maps, I am available for
small tasks. I will simply help to get your project moving along. I will not help contribute to an entire project.
If anyone else has some tips or ideas, Ill add them to my list.
