Huh huh, that's a great question. The answer is because artists and programmers do too much for free already. What kind of motivation do you think they have to build a functioning website for you from scratch and run servers? The community? The people? HA. Just because Dennis does it (how/why I will never know,) that doesn't mean you can expect every know-how to practically devote their lives to this game and make these comparisons just because someone was talking chit

If Dennis planned on terminating this site's service, I would assume he would release the database of content that would otherwise be lost. There is a lot of really neat stuff here that exists nowhere else on the internet, and probably no longer in private collections, either.

At least someone could upload things to Mega/Dropbox/Mediafire

I know most of the maps are preserved with hac2's download database, but tutorials and tags and other raw content will not be, along with the many informational posts and topics here.

Though if the site is going to go down let me know because a lot of files I do not keep track of because I know I can find them here.

Also if it becomes too expensive to host the files I(we?) can help. I do not support many causes, but Halo CE and this site has given me more then you know.

As for moving sites I do not mind the dated look. I have been apart of other moding forms that have faded away (RIP ModHalo). It is the people that make this a great place to be.

Even if it was going down, I'm like 50% certain you could still download maps from an archive of Halomaps.

TBH I don't think anyone here's capable of hosting the amount of data Dennis has on his servers - even though he runs a company responsible for keeping numerous websites online he's indicated having this on the side is an appreciable financial liability.

Dennis, you earn money con the site only by adversting? Its rentable?

You can always Donate to the site, although that function is missing on the front page.
