For some reason, my 3dsmax 8 takes a while to boot up after I've clicked on the program shortcut.
Before I go further, I will explain that it is not typical computer slowness, 3ds max 8 used to run super fast before I installed the FBX converter package.
Even running the program off of an SSD didn't help, and uninstalling the fbx converter package didn't revert it back to its original boot speed.
Visually what happens is that the 3dsmax 8 pre-load menu (the square black bar with the names of plugins that are loading) shows up and works, and after about 2 or 3 seconds the 3dsmax UI pops up, but it is unresponsive for about 30 seconds. After that, everything loads and works normally, but it is the darn loading time that is getting annoying. Has anyone ever encountered this or has a fix?
The FBX package I am using is called "fbx200611_2_3dsmax80_win_enu".
And I'd prefer not to re-install 3dsmax 8 because I'd have to also re-install the FBX converter package too, which leads me back to the original problem... Edited by Jesse on Aug 2, 2015 at 07:28 PM

Why do you need the fbx converter package?

I tried getting it from http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/pc/item?siteID=123112&id=10204944, but the download link isn't good anymore.

Quote: --- Original message by: il Duce Primo Why do you need the fbx converter package? It's so that I can import FBX models from 3ds max 2014 to 3ds max 8. I use this when I rip models from GTA V/IV and have to get them to 3ds 8 somehow, because I don't particularly like working in 3ds max 2014 (and the exporter messes up faces sometimes). I'll upload the installer if anyone wants to take a look at it. I'm on my phone right now so I can't do it yet but I will soon. EDIT: if I don't have this package installed, 3dsmax 8 can't import the FBX models from 3dsmax 2014 for some reason. Edited by Jesse on Aug 3, 2015 at 04:21 AM

blitzkrieg already got overshadowed by progress.
It's not for blitz, it's for compatibility when collaborating with lots of other modelers <
p.s. If you think it makes 8 slow, just try keeping your patience waiting for 2014 to load with no plugins Edited by OrangeJuice on Aug 3, 2015 at 05:44 PM

Jesse: Try to install max 8 a 2nd time, in a different directory. I don't know what all that entails, but I'm sure there are apps that let you install twice. Edited by Dwood on Aug 4, 2015 at 12:43 AM

I know what that's like on a 7200 rpm drive that feels like a 5400 rpm :( I have two installations of W7 on two separate drives on my main laptop, one OS on an SSD has only drivers for the PC and Steam\games installed, the other OS in a hard drive is for general use. My macbook has Yosemite for Torrents and iTunes music, and I also boot camp W10 for kicks.
